  • Justin, Tyler Payton and Sean Bishop announce the engagement of their parents, Michelle Downey and Ray Bishop.

    She is the daughter of Bessie Price and the late Boyd “Shorty” Downey.

    He is the son of Jeff and Joann Gee.

    The couple is owner and operator of R&M Repair and Clean-Up and will reside in Shelbyville.

    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2011, at Salem Baptist Church in Shelbyville. A reception will follow at the church.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Luke Douglas Heflin celebrated his first birthday Aug. 22, 2011.

    He is the son of Eugene and Julie Heflin of Mount Washington.

    Grandparents are Wayne and Colleen Heflin of Bagdad, Jean Goodwin of Louisville and the late Mitchell Goodwin. Great-grandparents are Donnie Dye of Louisville and the late Maurice Dye.

  • Josiah Le’Andre Thomas celebrated his first birthday Sept. 10, 2011.

    He is the son of Rochellia Thomas of Shelbyville and Juan Angles Martinez of Mexico.

    Grandparents are Patricia Thomas of Shelbyville, Pauline Martinez of Mexico and the late Robert Evans. Great-grandparents are the late Eva Thomas and the late Edna Evans.

  • Stephen and Patsy Grigsby announce the engagement of their daughter, Stephanie Marie Grigsby of Shelbyville, to Michael Chad Cox of Scottsburg, Ind. He is the son of Tom and Judy Cox of Scottsburg, Ind.

    She attended Shelby County High School and now works at Clark Memorial Hospital.

    He attended Scottsburg High School and now works at LHP Software in Columbus, Ind.

    The wedding will take place at 4 p.m. Sept. 17, 2011, at Jeff Reynolds residence.

    The couple will honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico.

  • Donna and Ralph Gallagher were married Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Cross Keys Worship Center.

    Parents of the bride are Rose Barnes of Shelbyville and the late Ernest Goodlett. The groom is the son of Ralph and Mary Gallagher of Shelbyville.

    Wedding music was provided by Aaron Blakeman. Kristy Shanks and Elvie Gallagher sang "You had Me From Hello."

    Pastor George Blakeman officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by Danny Goodlett.

  • He only has one eye and goes by the name of “Chicken,” and not only has he stolen the hearts of all those at an animal rescue facility in Shelby County but also that of a woman 3,000 miles away.

    “He’s just the most amazing little guy you ever saw, and this woman is driving all the way out here from California to pick him up,” said Ashley Shelburne, founder of Tyson’s Chance, an animal rescue organization.

  • “I have known her all my life, and everyone loved her. You would be hard pressed to find anyone in this town who does not feel that way.”

    John Shannon’s sentiments about Doris Jean Sutherland Ruble, who passed away Saturday at the age of 80, are shared by many in Shelbyville, who consider Ruble’s kind, loving nature to be her legacy to her family and her community.

    Ruble, a retired LPN, worked at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville for 57 years, stretching back to the days when the facility was known as King’s Daughter’s hospital.
