    The Shelbyville Historic District Commission will meet 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 627 Main Street, in the new Shelbyville Welcome/Heritage Center.

  • Katelynn and Loryn want to announce the birth of there brother, Boden Timothy Kendall. He was born Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds 1.5 oz. and was 19 inches long. Parents are Jody and Amy Kendall of Shelbyville. Grandparents are Joe and Connie Kendall of Shelbyville, and Chuck and Annette Lochow of Russell. Great-Grandparents are Clarence Patterson of Finchville, Bernette and Duane Neva of Kensal North Dakota and the late Ida Belle Patterson.

  • Barbara and Ken Hudson have been married for 50 years. The couple were married on Feb. 25, 1961 at the Earlewood Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina by the Rev. C.W. Poston. Barbara previously worked for Bell Telephone Company and Ken had a 30 years career with the U.S. Army retiring with the rank of Colonel.

    The couple have two children, Michael and Andrew (Kelly) and two grandchildren, Emily and John.

    The couple will celebrate privately with family.

  • Army Pvt. Jasper J. Smith has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, which included basic combat training and advanced individual training (AIT).

    During the first nine weeks of initial entry training, the trainee completed basic combat training which included instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

  • Baptist Men's Day is Sunday, and Bagdad Baptist Church has plans for an extensive celebration. Events will include breakfast 9-10 a.m., Sunday School 10-10:20 a.m. and worship service 10:30 a.m. The speaker is Chris Burke, former major-league player for the Houston Astros. Music will be provided by Blend (above), an a cappella group that focuses on faith, love and values.

  • Lula McGee celebrated her 98th birthday at Crescent Place Assisted Living with many friends and family. Born just outside of Taylorsville, McGee has one son, Cecil McGee and daughter-in-law, Barbara McGee of Shelbyville. Her daughter, Loretta Kalber died four years ago. She has three grandchildren, Tony McGee of Indianapolis, Ind., Tim McGee of Franklin, and Troy Kalber of Taylorsville; three great-grandchildren, Justin McGee of Lexington, Aaron McGee of Shelbyville and Jenna McGee of Bowling Green.

    Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stratton Center.
    Shelby County Fiscal Court  meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Stratton Center, 215 Washington St. Tuesday.
    Simpsonville City Commission meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Simpsonville City Hall.
