  • About 130 people attended Cub Scout Pack 270's annual Blue and Gold Banquet on April 18 at First Christian Church. Patches and awards were given out to new Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos scouts. Those bridging over to Boy Scouts were Arrow of Light scouts Brandon Johnson, Ryan Lee, Samuel Muncy, Frederick Myers, Jordan Ross and Isaac Barney. Den Leader Jason Ross led them. Cubmaster Lee Muncy also retired after six years with the pack.

  • Joe and Ann Palmer of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Hannah Palmer of Lexington, to Joseph Amundson of Elizabethtown. He is the son of Craig and Mary Amundson of Dawson Springs.

    She is employed by the University of Kentucky Department of Epidemiology.

    He is employed as an engineer at Dow Corning Corporation.

    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. on June 6 at Church of The Annunciation in Shelbyville.

  • Patty and Randy Meers of Cropper announce the engagement of their daughter, Vanessa Riddell of Waddy, to Todd Burchfield of Waddy. He is the son of Helen and Mike Burchfield.

    She is a 2004 graduate of Shelby County High School and is employed at The Sentinel-News.

    He is 1995 graduate of Shelby County High School and is employed by RPS Barge Company.

    The wedding will take place at 5 p.m. on May 25, 2015 at Red Orchard Park in Shelbyville.

  • In observance of Earth Day 2015, Boy Scouts of Troop 164 (sponsored by the 1st Presbyterian Church) picked up trash along a section of the Old Mount Eden road. Bob Green is the Scoutmaster of Troop 164. Scouts participating were (front row, from left) Charlie Muncy and Marcus Harper; (second row) Brandon Johnson, Wesley Cottongim, Carter Stivers and Billy Cook; (third row) Samuel Muncy, Geo Cook, Matthew Munsterman and Robert Sherrod.

  • Brenda and Charles Higgins of Shelbyville have been married for 35 years. The couple was married on May 10, 1980 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

    Both are graduates of the Shelby County High School Class of 1973. Charles Higgins Sr. is a retired First Sergeant who served 23 years in the Army, and is the son of the late Sarah Webb Bland and James E. Higgins. Brenda is the Associate Minister of the Bethesda Church of God. She is the daughter of Frances Beach and the late William Harrison Beach.
