  • Great American Dulcimer Convention

    to be held at Pine Mountain State Resort

     

    Dulcimer players from near and far will gather Sept. 26-27 at Pine Mountain State Resort Park at Pineville for the 2014 Great American Dulcimer Convention.

  • Michelle and Jack Samples of Bagdad announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Samples to Benjamin John McNew. He is the son of Brian McNew of Indiana and Tammy McNew of Shelbyville.

    She is a graduate of Georgetown College.

    He is a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College.

    Ben and Kelly were high school sweethearts and have been together for the past seven years.

    The wedding will take place Sept. 6, 2014, at Red Orchard Park.

    Blood drives in Shelby County will be at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center, 8460 Shelbyville Road in Simpsonville; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at City Hall, 108 Old Veechdale Road.
    Retired teacher dinner meeting

  • Gilbert and Ruth Humphrey of Shelbyville have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Sept. 5, 1964 in Louisville.

    They are members of Catholic Church of the Annunciation. She is the former Ruth Cambron of Springfield, retired from Motor Coach Industry and is now a CASA volunteer. He is retired from Ford Motor Company.

    They have three children, Lisa Kaiser of Shelbyville, Rebecca Cook of Shelbyville and Karen Walker of Spencer County; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  • Rev. Billy Lee and Dr. Jane C. Kimbrel of Fort Valley, Ga. announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Lee Kimbrel to Marc Christopher Bond. He is the son of Jerry and Kathleen Bond.

    She is the granddaughter of Gwin Carver and Waunelle Kimbrel, both of Douglas, Ga. and the late Bruce Carver and Billy L. Kimbrel Sr. She graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and is currently enrolled in the Master’s program at the University of Kentucky.
