  • Riley wins youth oratorical contest

    Kyra Riley won the girls' youth oratorical contest sponsored by the Shelby County Optimist Club, held April 22 at the Stratton Center. This is a copy of her winning speech.

    Why me? Why not? I believe this is a question everyone asks in life's journey. It usually is asked when we come face to face with challenges. If we are positive, then we realize that we need to go through difficulties to get somewhere higher. When my Administrator first mentioned this topic, I pondered on it, like my fellow orators. I wanted to establish its meaning and make a personal connection with the theme.

    Each school will have its own separate menu during the last month of school. Call the Board of Education 633-2375 or check the Web site at shelby.k12.ky.us for school menus. Elementary schools will still have menus available. May 30 will be the last day of school. No school on Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day
