  • Church, community help Puckett with new van

  • Engagement: Brown-Smith

    Timothy and Julie Brown of Simpsonville announce the engagement of their daughter, Amber Brown of Shelbyville, to Jerome Smith of Shelbyville. He is the son of Bill and Janie Akins of Mason, N.C.

    Brown is a 2003 graduate of Shelby County High School and is a hairstylist at Great Clips. Smith is a 1987 graduate of Halifax County High School in Virginia and is a stock person for the distribution center at Kroger.

    The wedding will take place at 5 p.m. April 30 at Simpsonville Baptist Church.

  • Engagement: Radcliff-Dowell

    Chuck and Tammie Radcliff of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Paige Alexandra Radcliff of Shelbyville, to Matthew Wescott Dowell of Meade County. He is the son of Alan and Christy Dowell of Elizabethtown and Robinn and Barry Barmore of Louisville.

    The wedding will take place at 2:30 p.m. May 21, 2011 at Holly Hill Church of Christ in Frankfort.

  • Engagement: Schlientz-Stapleton

    Elizabeth Schlientz of Louisville and Dr. James Stapleton of Simpsonville announce their engagement.

    Schlientz is originally from Long Island, N.Y., and is a CPA project manager at Humana in Louisville.

    Stapleton is the owner of Shelby County Chiropractic in Shelbyville.

    He proposed on Feb. 4 in Central Park, and the couple plans to marry at the Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville on Oct. 15, 2011.

  • Pages for Montell

    State Rep. Brad Montell (R-Shelbyville) welcomes Olivia  McCants to Frankfort, where she served as his legislative page on Feb. 16. Olivia is the daughter of Jay and Heather McCants. Liam Baker-Stanton served as a page for state Rep. Brad Montell in the Kentucky House of Representatives on Feb. 17.  Liam is a sophomore at Collins High School.

    Katelynn and Loryn want to announce the birth of there brother, Boden Timothy Kendall. He was born Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds 1.5 oz. and was 19 inches long. Parents are Jody and Amy Kendall of Shelbyville. Grandparents are Joe and Connie Kendall of Shelbyville, and Chuck and Annette Lochow of Russell. Great-Grandparents are Clarence Patterson of Finchville, Bernette and Duane Neva of Kensal North Dakota and the late Ida Belle Patterson.

  • 50th anniversary: Barbara and Ken Hudson

    Barbara and Ken Hudson have been married for 50 years. The couple were married on Feb. 25, 1961 at the Earlewood Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina by the Rev. C.W. Poston. Barbara previously worked for Bell Telephone Company and Ken had a 30 years career with the U.S. Army retiring with the rank of Colonel.

    The couple have two children, Michael and Andrew (Kelly) and two grandchildren, Emily and John.

    The couple will celebrate privately with family.

  • Army graduate

    Army Pvt. Jasper J. Smith has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, which included basic combat training and advanced individual training (AIT).

    During the first nine weeks of initial entry training, the trainee completed basic combat training which included instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions, and core values.

  • Baptist Men's Day at Bagdad

    Baptist Men's Day is Sunday, and Bagdad Baptist Church has plans for an extensive celebration. Events will include breakfast 9-10 a.m., Sunday School 10-10:20 a.m. and worship service 10:30 a.m. The speaker is Chris Burke, former major-league player for the Houston Astros. Music will be provided by Blend (above), an a cappella group that focuses on faith, love and values.
