Jon and Jennifer Way of Bagdad announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Nov. 11, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Mason Oliver Way. He was born at 11:05 a.m., weighing 6 pounds and 5.8 ounces and 19 ¾ inches long.

Grandparents are Charles and Brenda Reese of Simpsonville, John and Janice Way.

Great-grandparents are Patsy Jones of Shelbyville, Marian Gordon of Frankfort, the late James Jones, the late Leonard and Juanita Reese, and the late Charles and Birdie Way.

Johnny and Joyce Spaulding have been married for 50 years. They were married on Dec. 1, 1962, in Mercer County.

She is the former Joyce Kinder. He is a former employee of Black and Decker. They are members of Christiansburg Baptist Church.

They are parents of Tim Spaulding of Bagdad and Chris Spaulding of Shelbyville and have seven grandchildren.

A party was held in their honor with family and friends on Nov. 25 at the Shelbyville Fire Department.

Corpus Christi Academy will host its sixth annual Spirit of Christmas Dance, featuring the Monarchs (shown here at the 2011 event), on Saturday at the Shelbyville Country Club lodge. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and dancing will be 8-11 p.m. A full cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be available. Tickets are $60 per couple or $35 for singles. Seating is limited. Cub Scouts, their parents, and pack leaders of Cub Scout Pack 270, sponsored by Shelby Christian Church, participated in the national Scout-for-Food program in November. The scouts collected more than 550 items – canned and packaged food – and delivered them to the Serenity Center on Frankfort Road for its food bank.
