  • 84th birthday

    Doris Purvis Beller celebrated her 84th birthday on June 19 with her granddaughter Kerrie and husband Ken Howard. Celebrating with her was also Jeanene Purvis Rogers and Don Rogers, Joe and Denise Purvis, Ben and Pauline Purvis, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

  • 25th anniversary: Grigsby

    Billy and Anita Grigsby have been married for 25 years. The couple was married on June 17, 1986 at the Shelby County Courthouse. She was formerly a Richard of Bullitt County. They live in Shelby County and have one son, David Grigsby of Shelbyville.

  • 71st anniversary: Shouse

    Leonard and Martha Shouse celebrated 71 years of marriage on June 21, 2011. Long-time residents of Simpsonville, they now reside in Shelbyville. They have two daughters, Norma Shouse of Lawrenceburg and Carolyn Shouse Mills of Louisville, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

  • Frankfort Tiny Miss

    Kadence Bree Smith competed in the “Crowned Prince and Princess Charm Pageant” Tiny Miss division at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort. In her optional division she won western wear, 1950s wear, prettiest smile and photogenic. She won her tiny miss division and received the overall supreme title. She is the 9-month-old daughter of Alex and Kristin Smith of Shelbyville. Her grandparents are Elmer and Sheri Bullock of Shelbyville, Rick Smith of Maryland, Patricia Maullaney of Fla.; great-grandparents are Joe and Patty Greer of Shelbyville and Delores Smith of Maryland.

  • Kentucky Sheriffs’ boys and girls ranch

    The Kentucky Sheriffs’ boys and girls ranch marks its 36th year of reaching Kentucky’s youth this year. The 2011 camping season will run for eight weeks, serving both boys and girls through the end of July. The camp is free thanks to the dedication and support of sheriffs, members and contributors covering the well over $300 per week per child costs. Shelby County boys in attendance were (front row, from left) Christian Hull and Nathaniel Adams. Also pictured are Shelby County Sheriff Mike Armstrong, Audrey Armstrong and ranch head counselor Kelly Buck.

  • Wedding: Bohannon

    Amy Michelle Lee and Christopher Glenn Bohannon were married May 27, 2011 in New Castle.

    Parents of the bride are James and Dana Lee of Bethlehem. The groom is the son of Timothy and Cheryl Bohannon of Elmburg.

    John Logan Brent officiated the ceremony.

  • Engagement: Stillwell-VanDyke

    Ronald and Sandra French announce the engagement of their daughter, Heather LorAnn Stillwell of Lexington, to Tyler Ray VanDyke of Lexington. She is also the daughter of the late Jake Stillwell. He is the son of Bruce VanDyke and Cindy VanDyke of Lexington.

    The bride-to-be is a graduate from Georgetown College in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She recently completed her master's in special education in 2011 from Georgetown College. She is currently a special education teacher in Fayette County. She is employed at Wellington Elementary.

  • 90th birthday: Agnes Bolin Robinson

    Agnes Bolin Robinson celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends at her home in Shelbyville.

    She was born May 24, 1921 to the late John and Susie Bolin of Shelby County. She was a homemaker and retired from General Electric.

  • Engagement: Brown-Pernell

    Beth and Jeff Brown of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Leslie Brown of Shelbyville, to Jonathan Pernell of Simpsonville. He is the son of David and Shirley Moore of Simpsonville.

    Brown and Pernell are graduates of Shelby County High School and students at the University of Kentucky.

    The wedding will take place at 4 p.m. July 23, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville.
