  • Wedding: Quire

    Elizabeth C. Barber and Charles D. Quire were married June 30, 2011 at Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

    Parent of the bride is Jim Barber of New Albany, Ind. The groom is the son of Lori Quire of Bagdad.

    John Underwood officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her son, Dylan Pendleton.

    Honor attendant was Samantha Sandlin of Georgetown, Ind.

    Best man was Raymond Pendleton of Georgetown, Ind.

    The couple will reside in Pleasureville.

  • 100th birthday: Edna Devers

    Edna Black Devers will celebrate her 100th birthday this weekend at the Masonic Home Shelbyville. Devers, who was born and has lived her entire life in Shelby County, will have a reception from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Garden Café. Friends are welcome. Devers has three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and was recently recognized by Governor Steve Beshear with the Kentucky Colonel award.

  • Birth: Gomelsky son

    Vladi and Sarah Beth Gomelsky of Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a son, on April 8, 2011 at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville. He has been named Maxwell Nicholas Gomelsky.

    Grandparents are Steve and Angela Cook of Shelbyville, Boris and Natasha Gomelsky of Frankfort.

    Great-grandparents are Leo Cook of Shelbyville and the late Martha Cook, and Vincent and Rachel Biagi.

  • 66th anniversary: Bruce and Joy Gilman

    Bruce and Joy Gilman have been married for 66 years. The couple was married on July 23, 1945. She is the former Joy Sharpe of Farmersburg, Ind.

    They were members of Centenary Methodist Church for about 41 years. Now they are members of the First Christian Church and have lived in Shelbyville for 43 years. He worked for the both the U.S. and Kentucky departments of transportation and is now retired.

    They are the parents of C. Thomas Gilman of Burlingame, Calif., and Joseph Gilman of Smyrna, Ga., and have three grandchildren, Emily, Natalie and Hannah Gilman.

  • 40th anniversary: R.J. and Diann Haggard

    R.J. and Diann Haggard have been married for 40 years. The couple was married June 19, 1971, at Briar Ridge Christian Church.

    She is the former Theresa Diann Ross of Spencer County and was a hairdresser but now is a homemaker. He is retired from Ford Motor Company.

    They attend Shelby Christian Church and are the parents of Jason and Melinda Haggard and Lorrie  and Rick Pruitt, all of Shelbyville, and Melissa and Matt Estes of Lexington. They have four grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, Raegan and Brody.

  • 60th anniversary: Herbert and Lois White

    Herbert and Lois White of Southville have been married for 60 years. The couple was married on June 28, 1951, at Salem Baptist Church in Southville.

    They are the parents of Darrell and Judy White, David White and Anita White, all of Shelbyville, and Angela and Phillip Sandlin of Louisville. They are the grandparents of Austin, Adam, Rachel, Jacob, Joshua and Michelle.

    They will celebrate at 2-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Salem Baptist Church. A short ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited. The couple requests no gifts.

  • 90th birthday: Bessie Wilson

    Bessie Wilson turned 90 years young on June 28, 2011. She has two children, Alberta Dietrich of Shelbyville and Stan Wilson of Louisville. She was honored at a dinner at Claudia Sanders Dinner House, with 33 family members present.

  • Engagement: Cox-Mason

    Jimmy Cox and Linda Cox of Lancaster announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Ean Whitney Cox to Gregory Bryant Mason. He is the son of Eddie and Mary Jane Mason of Shelbyville.

    Ean Whitney is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She is employed as the art teacher at West Jessamine High School in Nicholasville. Greg is a graduate of Centre College and is employed as the head men’s basketball coach at Centre, located in Danville.

  • Engagement: Cox-Mason

  • I'm one: Brenyn Keith Botkins

    Brenyn Keith Botkins will celebrate his first birthday July 21, 2011.

    He is the son of Jeremy and Danielle Botkins of Bagdad.

    Grandparents are Dennis and Rhonda Hudspeth and Jennifer and Michael (Red) Harrod, all of Bagdad, and Keith and Melissa Botkins of Waddy. Great-grandparents are Jeanie Harmon and Ray Smith, both of Frankfort. Great-great-grandmother is Loula Robinson of Frankfort.
