  • I'm one: Shyanna Claire Knight

    Shyanna Claire Knight celebrated her first birthday Aug. 12, 2011.

    She is the daughter of Martha Knight and Chris Knight, both of Danville.

    Grandparents are Penny Reynolds of Waddy, David Reynolds of Taylorsville, Wendy Knight and Dale Knight, both of Liberty. Great-grandparents are Stella Carris of Waddy, Marvine Crutcher and Thomas Crutcher, both of Liberty, and the late Wilmer G. Carris Sr.

  • Library receives funds

    Tom Flowers, vice chair of the conservation district, presents Pamela Federspiel, director of the Shelby County Public Library, with a check to purchase conservation books for the library’s collection. This books purchased with this check is on display at the library on the third floor.

  • Birth: White son

    Ben and Cassie White of Pleasureville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on May 6, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Benjamin “Bennie” Gordon White.

    Grandparents are Eddie and Judy Gordon of Eminence, Bob and Connie Rawlins of Smithfield and Steve and Debbie White of Campbellsburg.

    Great-grandparent is Joyce White of Louisville.

  • Engagement: Moore-Goodin

    Mark and Josephine Moore of Simpsonville announce the engagement of their daughter, Jacqueline Moore, to Jeremy Goodin. He is the son of Terry and Amy Goodin of Louisville.

    Moore is a graduate of Southern High School in Louisville and is employed by Oaklawn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she is a certified nursing assistant. She is enrolled at JCTC, with plans to transfer to Spaulding University to complete her nursing degree.

  • 90th birthday: Lucy Long

    Lucy Long turned 90 years old on July 5, 2011. She celebrated on July 3, 2011 with 29 members of her family to have a cake and ice cream social at the Masonic Home where she resides; and on July 5, 2011, her three daughters, Dale White, Brenda Wayne and Evelyn Jones had lunch with her.

  • Library book sale

    President of the Friends of the Library, Kathleen Stringfield (right), and volunteer Ralph Dunbar look at some of the books that will be offered at the book sale Aug. 17-20 at the library. Donations of hardbacks, paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, artwork and educational games are needed for the sale, which raises funds to help with programming and equipment. Books may be taken to the community room downstairs at the library.

  • 80th Birthday: Lillie Wakefield

    Lillie Mae Wakefield will celebrate her 80th birthday Friday. She is married to Roy Wakefield and has lived in Shelbyville all her life. They have six children, Cornell Wakefield, Anna Jones, James Alice Wakefield, Charles Wakefield, all of Shelbyville, Jan Pollald of Maryland, and the late Dora Chambers
