  • 50th anniversary: Loyd and Judy Poe Cheak

    Loyd Cheak and Judy Poe were married Jan. 9, 1962, at Waddy Baptist Church by Rev. James Smith.

    The couple has one son, Loyd Cheak Jr. of Finchville, and two daughters, Teresa Harris of Waddy and Melissa (Gill) Pullium of Graefenburg; three granddaughters, Cindy Harris of Franklin, Crystal Harris of Waddy and Brooke Cheak of Clay Village; and one step-grandson, Blake Pullium of Waddy.

    Judy Cheak is a retired office clerk from the Shelbyville Water and Sewer, and Loyd is a retired dairy and tobacco farmer.

  • 50th anniversary: Banta

    Jearld Dean and Mary Frances Lay Banta of Pleasureville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They were married on Jan. 24, 1962, in Shelbyville.

    They have six children, Mike (Susie) Banta of Bagdad, Judy Fallis of Shelbyville, Phyllis (Keith) Jamison of Eminence, Gary (Vicki) Banta of Pendleton, Scott Banta of Pewee Valley and Sheila (Todd) Lyons of Eminence. They also have 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

    There will be a reception 5 p.m. Saturday at the Bagdad Ruritan Club in Bagdad. All friends and relatives are invited.

  • Ann-Blair Thornton at Miss America pageant

    Miss Kentucky Ann-Blair Thornton (right), granddaughter of Bill and Ann Borders of Shelbyville, poses with her fellow winners of the 2012 Quality of Life Awards at the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas last week. More than 40 members of the Borders family traveled to watch Thornton, who did not make Saturday night’s semifinals.   • 60th anniversary: Frances and Leonard Dennie

    Leonard and Frances Dennie will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

    They are the parents of Cinda Wheet and Diana and Fred Hudson, all of Shelby County

    In celebration the Dennies would like to invite family and friends to join them 3 p.m. Sunday at Burks Branch Baptist Church. They request no gifts.

  • 60th anniversary: Alvin and Lois Fletcher Miller

    The family of Alvin and Lois (Fletcher) Miller would like to invite family and friends to help celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary between 2 and 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Highland Baptist Church in Shelbyville. The couple was married at the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville on Jan. 30, 1952. They have five children and seven grandchildren. The Millers reside on their farm in Shelbyville.

  • Birth: Roberts daughter

    Doug and Carrie Roberts of Carthage, Mo. announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on Dec. 12, 2011 at McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage. She has been named Jordan Lee Roberts. She joins big sister Hope Frances, age 2.

    Grandparents are Dave and Iva Geiger of Allen, Neb., Marty Wright of Carthage, Mo. and Robert and Bea Roberts of Las Vegas, Nev.

    Great-grandparents are the late Myron and Julia Osbahr, Jim and Iola Geiger, Sam and Mary Emily Rutledge and Sanford and Flora Roberts.

  • 45th anniversary: James and Judy Hamilton

    James and Judy McAllister Hamilton of Lexington have been married for 45 years. The couple was married on Dec. 30, 1966, at First Christian Church in Shelbyville.

    They are the parents of Andrew and Sylvia Hamilton of Apex, N.C., and Stuart and Lin Hamilton of Finchville; and grandparents of Steven Hamilton of Apex and Cameron and Scott Hamilton of Finchville.

    They celebrated with a trip to Opryland in Nashville, where they saw the Rockettes and took a dinner cruise on the General Jackson Showboat.

    Sullivan daughter

    Blake and Ginny Sullivan of Shelbyville announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, on Dec. 4, 2011 at Norton Suburban Hospital. She has been named Avery Karsyn Sullivan. She was born at 11:25 a.m., weighting 7 pounds and 13 ounces, and 19 ½ inch tall.
