    Anna Lee and William D. Morris of Simpsonville announce the engagement of their daughter, Leigh Morris, to Nick Van Hooser. He is the son of Gary and Debbie Van Hooser of Bowling Green.

    She is a graduate of University of Louisville, and is paralegal at the Kentucky Attorney General's Office in Frankfort.

    He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University, is currently obtaining his MBA at the University of Louisville and works full time at JB Hunt Transportation in Louisville.

    A September wedding is planned.

  • 70th anniversary: Margaret E. and Simon Humphrey Jr.

    Margaret E. and Simon Humphrey Jr. of Shelbyville have been married for 70 years. The couple was married on July 14, 1945 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericksburg by Rev. J. Lammers.

    A homemaker, she is the former Margaret E. Reynolds of Bardstown.

    He is a farmer.

    They are members of the Church of the Annunciation.

  • 50th anniversary: Ronnie and Joyce Sowder

    Ronnie and Joyce Sowder have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on June 18, 1965 in the brides parents house in Brodhead.

    Ronnie is a retired supervisor of Atlantic Envelope and currently enjoys his hobby of clock repair.

    Joyce is a retired packer of Revere Foil and is currently enjoying gardening and her yard decorations.

    They are the parents of Beverly Burba of Crestwood and Timothy Sowder of Morgantown, and grandparents of seven.

  • 60th anniversary: A.C. and Dorothy “Dot” Carpenter Hahn

    A.C. and Dorothy “Dot” Carpenter Hahn were married May 28, 1955, at Graefenburg Christian Church by Rev. George Watson.

    He is a lifelong farmer and was a builder for 43 years.

    They have four children, Suzanne Sikes (Hugh), Julie McClure (Mike), Tim Hahn (Julie) and Logan Hahn (Kay); nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

    The couple celebrated at home with a family cookout hosted by their children.

    Debbie Thomas of Pleasureville announces the engagement of her daughter, Jennifer Thomas of Eminence, to Todd Payton of Eminence. He is the son of Maurice Payton of New Castle and the late Minnie Payton.

    She is a 2001 graduate of Shelby County High School, is obtaining a criminal justice degree at IWU and is currently a loan servicer at KHESLC.

    He is a 1999 graduate of Henry County High School and is currently a guard at Luther Luckett Correctional Facility.

    The wedding will take place Saturday at Shelby Hill Farms.

  • Wedding: Vashti Thongdara and Cody D. Smith

    Vashti Thongdara and Cody D. Smith were married May 22, 2015 at Navarre Beach, Fla.

    Parents of the bride are Jessie and Boun Thongdara of Charleston, WV.The groom is the son of Lori Smith, and Gary and Deborah Smith of Shelbyville.

    The groom's uncles, Keith Skinner and Kevin Groome, officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    Attendant of honor was Melissa Francis of Charleston, W.Va., cousin of the bride.

    Best Man was Dustin L. Smith of Silver Springs, Md., brother of the groom.

    A reception was held at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville on Friday night. Cancer survivors participating were (standing from left) Tony Carriss, survivor since 1999; Jason Everson, kidney cancer survivor for 3 months; Bart Roettger, melanoma survivor for a year; Lavay Lauter, guest speaker; (seated) Natholee B. Harris, breast cancer survivor since 1975; and Mattie Roach, 2015 Shelby County Miss Relay.

    Becky and Brian Woodrow of Mt. Washington announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Woodrow of Mt. Washington to Spencer Young of Ft. Campbell. He is the son of Robin and David Young of Bagdad.

    She is a 2015 graduate of the University of Louisville and is a teacher in the Clarksville, Tenn. school system.

    He is a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School and 2013 graduate of U.S.A.F. T.A.C.P. program, Special Forces. He is an airman for the United States Air Force.

    The wedding will be June 13, 2015 at Highview Baptist Church.

  • Birth: Burgin son

    Caytie and Matthew Scott Burgin, of Shelbyville, announce the birth of their second child, a son, on March 4, 2015, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He has been named Bennett James Burgin.

    Grandparents are Marty and Rachael Page of Finchville, Michelle and Jack Samples of Bagdad, and the late Jeffery Scott Burgin. Great-Grandparents are Jim Conti of Louisville, Alvin and Janet Burgin of Mount Eden.
