  • Top trotters for the turkey

    More than 200 runners line up for the start of the annual Turkey Trot race in downtown Shelbyville on Saturday morning. When they crossed the finish line, Devon Felding, a top cross-country star at Collins High School won first place among males, and Jay Sollinger was third (though first in his age group). Julie Doseth was the top female. Feiding had a time of 17 minutes and 41.81 seconds. Dotseth was at 22:48.30. The event benefited the Leadership Shelby Class of 2012 charity program.

  • Birth: Smith son

    Jerome and Amber Smith of Simpsonville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Sept. 27, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Jayden Kent Smith.

    Grandparents are Julie Brown of Simpsonville, Tim Brown of Louisville, Bill and Janie Akins of Mason, N.C., and Helen Clark of Shelbyville.

    Great-grandparents are Shirley and Larry Vessels of Simpsonville, Gary Davis of Louisville and the late Coretha Watkins Smith.

    Great-great grandma is Dorothy Carlson of Louisville.

  • Birth: Sensabaugh son

    Donnie and LouAnn Sensabaughof Bagdad announce the birth of their second child, a son, on Sept. 26, 2011, at Baptist East Hospital. He has been named Owen Boone Sensabaugh. He was born at 1:18 p.m. weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He has one brother, 6-year-old Chase.

    Grandparents are Marie Wright of Bagdad and James and Linda Sensabaugh of Hodgenville.

    Great-Grandparents are Annie Boone, Emma Derringer and Don McMillin.

  • Birth: Tuggle daughter

    Larry and Chastity Tuggle  of New Castle announce the birth of their seventh child, a daughter, on Nov. 2, 2011, at Baptist Northeast LaGrange Hospital. She was born at 4:55 p.m. weighing 5 pounds and 3 ounces at 18 inches long. She has been named Ava McAllyn Tuggle.

    Her brothers are Ethan, 14; Hunter, 8; Jacob, 6; and sister are Aleah, 12; Abby, 10; Ally, 10.

    Grandparents are Melinda and James Cunningham, Bobby Singleton of Shelbyville, Martha Jo Case of Eminence.

    Workers in the Shelby County Farm Bureau’s office on Mount Eden Road dressed up for Halloween as crazy witches.   • 54th anniversary: Sam and Joyce Medley

    Sam and Joyce Medley of Finchville have been married for 54 years. They were married on Nov. 9, 1957 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Todds Point.

    They are parents of Michael D. Medley and Cynthia Medley Hance, both of Louisville, and Kevin D. Medley of Finchville. Grandchildren are Sarah Hance Gonzales and Samantha Hance, both of Lexington, Suzanna Hance of Louisville, Justin Medley, Kelly Hundley and Lisa Phillips, all of Shelbyville. They have five great-grandchildren.
