  • Engagement: Shields-Harbin

    Junior and Melissa Shields of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Lynn Shields of Shelbyville, to Taylor Bryant Harbin of Simpsonville. He is the son of Art and Carrie Harbin of Louisville.

    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. April 28, 2012 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Mount Eden.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Engagement: Hill-Comstock

    John and Melva Hill of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Hill, to Kenton Comstock. He is the son of Steven and Sharon Comstock of Marion, Ohio.

    They met while attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Both have been on the dean’s list every semester and will graduate on May 5. She will have a bachelor of arts in psychology, and he will have a bachelor of arts in political science.

    Upon graduation Kenton will earn a commission as a lieutenant in the United State Marine Corps.

  • 50th anniversary: Sylvia and Tommy Marshall

    Sylvia and Tommy Marshall have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on March 15, 1962, in Shelbyville by the Rev. Claude E. Taylor

    Both are retirees of GE Appliance Park.

    She is a member of Shelby Congregational Methodist Church, and he is a member of Greater First Baptist of Simpsonville.

  • 50th anniversary: Donald and Susan Swindler

    Donald and Susan Swindler have been married for 50 years. The couple were married on March 17, 1962, at First Christian Church Shelbyville by Rev Ed Cayce.

    They are members of First Baptist Church of Shelbyville.

    Their children are Jesse Swindler (Emily) and Jon Swindler (Jamie), of Shelbyville. They have four grandchildren, Jack, Henry Swindler (Jon and Jamie Swindler’s Children) Tucker and Cooper Swindler (Jesse and Emily Swindler’s Children).

    They will celebrate with friends and family.

  • Armed forces news: Payton-Sewell graduates

    Army Pvt. Ronnie F. Payton-Sewell has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

    Payton-Sewell is the son of April Sewell of Clayvillage Road in Shelbyville.

    He is a 2011 graduate of Franklin County High School in Frankfort.

  • Engagement: McClain-Coots

    Ann Lear and James McClain, both of Shelbyville, announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda McClain of Shelbyville, to Mark Coots of Pleasureville. He is the son of Jeanie McCarty and Joseph Yocum, both of Shelbyville.

    She is a graduate of Stratford Career Institute.

    He is Shelby County High School graduate and owner of Lil Bit of MARK mechanic shop in Bethlehem.

    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 15, 2012.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Birth: Cissell daughter

    Kelly and Chris Cissell of Shelbyville announce the birth of a daughter on Feb. 27, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital Louisville. She has been named Olivia Masha Cissell.

    Grandparents are Rickie and Karen Jeffries of Mount Eden, Rose and Dave Wise of Shelbyville and Bill Cissell of Shelbyville. Great Grandparents are Peggy Richardson of Mount Eden, Walter and Peggy Jeffries of Waddy and Margie Austrew of Shelbyville.

  • Collins students elected

    Collins High School student Sarah Eades (right) was elected state historian, and Jordan Goss, also of Collins, was elected state officer-at-large for Kentucky’s Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. The election was conducted during the Spanish Honor Society Convention at West Jessamine County High School. Eades and Goss each will serve a 1-year term from 2012-13.
