  • Library book sale

    President of the Friends of the Library, Kathleen Stringfield (right), and volunteer Ralph Dunbar look at some of the books that will be offered at the book sale Aug. 17-20 at the library. Donations of hardbacks, paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, artwork and educational games are needed for the sale, which raises funds to help with programming and equipment. Books may be taken to the community room downstairs at the library.

  • 80th Birthday: Lillie Wakefield

    Lillie Mae Wakefield will celebrate her 80th birthday Friday. She is married to Roy Wakefield and has lived in Shelbyville all her life. They have six children, Cornell Wakefield, Anna Jones, James Alice Wakefield, Charles Wakefield, all of Shelbyville, Jan Pollald of Maryland, and the late Dora Chambers

  • Birth: Logan Horn

    Heather and Greg Horn of Richmond announce the birth of their first child, a son, on June 8, 2011 at Saint Joseph East Women’s Center. He has been named Logan Taylor Horn. He was born at 6:55 p.m. weighting 8 pounds and 3 ounces at 20.25 inches long.

    Grandparents are Brett and Dorothy Beaverson of Taylorsville, Dale Horn of Shelbyville and the late Dee Dee Horn.

  • Engagement: Bell-Barnes

    Donya M. and James H. Bell Jr. announce the engagement of their daughter, Jasmin Rachelle Bell, to Justin Corey Barnes, all of Shelbyville. He is the son of Bernice and Eric Barnes of Somerset.

    The bride-to-be is a Shelby County High School and Spencerian College graduate.

    The groom-elect is a graduate of Franklin County High School and Mid-American College of Mortuary Science.

    The wedding will take place July 23 at Clay Street Baptist Church. A reception will be at Highland Baptist.

    Keith Koebel and Renee Cambron-Koebel, both of LaGrange announce the engagement of their daughter, Jacqulyn Nicole Koebel of LaGrange, to Chad Spaulding of LaGrange. He is the son of Mark and Sandy Spaulding of Shelbyville.

    The bride is employed with Shelby County Public Schools and the groom is employed with Kindred Hospital.

    The wedding will take place 5 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2011 at Lakeside Reflections in Jeffersonville, Ind.

    Jerry and Debra Colvin, and Susan Graebe of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Renee Colvin Stucker to Brian Burton. He is the son of Linda Renee and Earl Burton of Frankfort, and the late Sandra Burton.

    The bride-to-be is a graduate of Shelby County High School and Kentucky State University. She is employed by the Cabinet of Health and Family Services.

    The groom-elect is a graduate of Western Hills High School and Kentucky State University. He is employed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

    A closed wedding will be Aug. 13, 2011.

    Victoria Louise Evans of Simpsonville and Preston Hanna of Shelbyville were married March 19, 2011 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Simpsonville.

    Parents of the bride are John and Sandra Evans of Simpsonville. The groom is the son of Mark and Cheri Hanna of Shelbyville.

    “Everything for me,” by Keith Urban, was played during the bride’s entrance. “Are you going to kiss me or not” was as the bride and groom exited.

    Bro. Bill Taylor officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    Elizabeth C. Barber and Charles D. Quire were married June 30, 2011 at Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

    Parent of the bride is Jim Barber of New Albany, Ind. The groom is the son of Lori Quire of Bagdad.

    John Underwood officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her son, Dylan Pendleton.

    Honor attendant was Samantha Sandlin of Georgetown, Ind.

    Best man was Raymond Pendleton of Georgetown, Ind.

    The couple will reside in Pleasureville.

  • 100th birthday: Edna Devers

    Edna Black Devers will celebrate her 100th birthday this weekend at the Masonic Home Shelbyville. Devers, who was born and has lived her entire life in Shelby County, will have a reception from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Garden Café. Friends are welcome. Devers has three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and was recently recognized by Governor Steve Beshear with the Kentucky Colonel award.
