• SCHS Class of 1978

    The Shelby County High School Class of 1978 gathered July 21 at Gallrein Farm for its 35th reunion. There were an estimated 50 members from the classes of 1977 and 1979 who attended. Approximately 25 to 30 classmates arrived after this photo was taken.

  • I'm one: Michael Botkins

    Masyn Dennis Michael Botkins celebrated his first birthday Oct. 2, 2013.

    He is the son of Danielle and Jeremy Botkins of Bagdad.

    Grandparents are Rhonda and Dennis Hudspeth of Bagdad, Jennifer and Michael Harrod of Bagdad and Keith and Melissa Botkins of Graefenburg.

    Great-grandparents are Jeanie Harmon of Frankfort, Ray and Nan Smith of Frankfort, Judy Harrod of Frankfort and the late Brenda Thomas and Bridget Ruble.

    Great-great-grandparent is Lula Robinson of Frankfort.

  • Engagement: Meador-Booher

    Stephen and Donna Meador of Shelbyvilleannounce the engagement of their daughter, Julia Dawn Meador, to William Allen Booher, both of Atlanta. He is the son of John and Audrey Booher of Lexington.

    She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky in 2009 and is employed by the American Cancer Society as a director of strategic communications planning.

  • 50th anniversary: Virgil and Peggy Tichenor

    Virgil and Peggy Tichenor have been married for 50 years. The couple was married surrounded by family and friends the afternoon of Oct. 24, 1963, at the home of Lucinda Phillips, Peggy’s aunt. The wedding was officiated by the late Rev. W.H. Howard of the Consolidated Baptist Church.

    Peggy Ann Burton and Virgil Tichenor Jr. originally met at the Paul L. Dunbar High School in Lexington, where Virgil played football.

  • Gray builds USA flag case

    Retired First Baptist Church musician Betty Jean Chatham (right) commissioned local artist/architect/craftsman/designer Whitey Gray to build a USA flag case in memory of her husband, Dr. Donald Chatham, who practiced medicine in Shelby County for 40 years and had served in the Navy during WWII. Gray researched the family tree and coat of arms and combined what he found with Dr. Chatham’s Christian beliefs to create a unique cherry case, which was presented to Betty Jean Chatham and now resides in her home.

  • Third annual Dorman Center carnival

    The third annual Dorman Center carnival was Saturday at the Clear Creek Park’s amphitheater in Shelbyville. The Dorman Center is a non-profit preschool that focuses on early intervention by placing high-risk special-needs children and typical children in the same classroom.

    The Kightley Purvis and Icy Stivers Purvis family reunion was Sept. 15 at the Henry County Fairgrounds’ 4-H building.
