    Amanda and Michael Price of Shelbyville were married on June 29, 2013, at Wheeler Farms in Shelbyville.

    Parents of the bride are Kim Searcy and David Wheeler of Waddy. The groom is the son of Jerry and Becky Price of Shelbyville. Gary Nethery officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by Wheeler, Kim Searcy and Gavin Watson, the bride’s son.

  • 60th anniversary: Bolin

    Mary Jane and Calvin Bolin will be married for 60 years on July 16, 2013. They were married on July 16, 1953, by Rev. Bob Pinder at Graefenburg Baptist Church.

  • Armed Forces: Giles

    Michael Austin Giles was selected to attend West Point Academy in New York. Cadet Giles was one of two chosen from the state of Kentucky, and one of 1,000 chosen from the 15,000 applicants from across The United States.

  • Armed Forces: Reid

    Army Reserve Pfc. Sydney P. Reid graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army’s mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

  • Engagement: Hopper-Burgin

    Tachelle Banfield Hopper announces her engagement to Tommy Burgin.

    She is a 1987 graduate of Sullivan University with a degree in Paralegal Studies, and is the mother of Augustus and McMillan Ludwick.

    He is a 1995 graduate of Oldham County High School, is employed in Shelbyville, and the father of PJ, Jessie and TT Burgin.

    The couple will marry at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2 in Louisville. Invitations have been mailed.

  • I'm one: Daryn Jagger Dempsey

    Daryn Jagger Dempsey celebrated his first birthday on May 14, 2013.

    He is the son of Crystal and Daniel Dempsey of Shelby County.

    Grandparents are Marty and Ellis Shouse of Frankfort, and Danny Jo and Maxellet Dempsey of Shelbyville. Great-grandparent is Betty Sue Shouse of Frankfort.

  • 50th anniversary: Kay and Ron Waldridge

    Kay and Ron Waldridge of Shelbyville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday. The couple was married in 1963 at Williamson W.Va., at the Baptist church.

    He is retired from his medical practice but continues to serve as medical director of Crestview and Masonic Home Shelbyville.

    She is the former Kay Varney and retired from teaching school.

    They are the parents of four sons, Ron Waldridge II (Lea), Jeff Waldridge (Beth), Chris Waldridge (Danni) and Chauncy Johnson (Amber). They have nine grandchildren.

    Trish and Glenn Simpson were married June 13, 2013, in Tennessee.

    Parents of the bride are Anthony Reynolds of Shelbyville and Patty Adams of Eminence. The groom is the son of Charles and Charolette Simpson of Eminence.

    Maid of honor was Paula Long of Shelbyville, the bride’s best friend.

    Bridesmaids were Maranda Medlin, Paige Peterson, both daughters of the bride.

    Best man was Leo Mason of Eminence.

    Groomsmen were Charles Simpson and Jared Simpson, the groom’s dad and son.

  • Birth: Poole son

    Heather Douthitt-Norton and Steven Poole of Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a son, on June 3, 2013, at Baptist Hospital East. He has been named Keagan LeeMichael Poole.

    He has an older brother, Kaleb and sister, Rheagan. Grandparents are Donna and Terry Douthitt of Shelbyville, and Michael and Darlene Murray of Bagdad, and Steve Poole of Pleasureville.

  • 50th anniversary: Charles Roe and Mary Ann Early

    Charles Roe and Mary Ann Early of Graefenburg will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.

    The couple was married in 1963 by Rev. Grady Nutt at the Graefenburg Baptist Church parsonage.

    Charles Roe is retired from General Electric Louisville Appliance Park. She was the former Mary Ann Pullium and is retired from Shelby County Public School System Foodservice.
