  • Horn earns alumni award from Murray

    Murray State University’s Outstanding Alumni of the Fine Arts Award will be presented to Dennis Horn at a dinner on Thursday at the university.

    Horn holds a bachelor of fine arts/teaching degree from Murray, where he received the 1981 President’s Art Award of Excellence. He was the first Murray art student to participate in the university’s off-campus work-study program. He also holds a master of arts in arts administration/community arts management from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

  • Birth: Farmer daughter

    Jessica and David Farmer of Eminence Pike announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on Sept. 13, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital. She has been named Layla Grace Farmer.

    Born at 7:47 a.m. she weighed 7 pounds and 11 ounces and was 20 ¼inches long. She has a 2-year-old brother, Levi.

    Grandparents are Margaret Biagi Tennill and Donald and Paula Tennill, Elmburg Road; Terry and Roy Farmer, Eminence Pike.

  • Hulette graduates basic training

    Air Force Airman Andrew C. Hulette graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete the 8-week basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Hulette is the son of Kim Rop of Orlando, Fla., and the grandson of Robert Mackey of Waddy. He is a 2011 graduate of Timber Creek High School in Orlando.

  • Banks graduates basic training

    Air Force Airman Michael A. Banks graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    Banks completed an intensive, 8-week program earns four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Banks is a 2009 graduate of Shelby County High School and is the son of Michael Banks of Fruita, Colo., and grandson of Hank Gross of Middletown, Ohio.

  • Birth: Soudom son

    Amanda Barger and Kurwin Soudom of Shelbyville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Aug. 8, 2012, at Norton Suburban Hospital. He has been named Graysin Lloyd Soudom. Born at 5:55 p.m., he weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    Grandparents are Lisa and Tony Ashmore of Payneville and David Willett of Battletown, Lynette and Randall Soudom of Shelbyville.

  • Raisor chosen for calendar

    Marissa Raisor, a 2010 Shelby County High School graduate, has been chosen to be in the 2013 Hooters Calendar as Miss June. She is currently a student at Northern Kentucky University, where is pursuing a degree in marketing. She also competed in the Hooters International Pageant in Miami along with another hometown girl, Morgan Spencer Whitworth. Marissa will be leaving for Hollywood, where she will be on a signing tour for the calendar.

  • Marston wedding

    Taylor Rene’ Sargent and Matthew Kyle Marston were married Sept. 8, 2012, on the grounds of the Browning Estate overlooking the Ohio River in Maysville.

    Parents of the bride are Tim and Jenny Sargent. The groom is the son of Sherri and Mike Marston. Grandparents of the bride were Gary and Ginger Godparent, Patti and Juan Bishop and Harold Sargent. Grandparents of the groom were Gayle and Lois Marston and Brenda Sipes Wade

    Wedding music was provided by Kaelan Marston, Tami Conrad, on the piano, Alex Mabey and Morgan Sargent.

  • Moorman wedding

    Evette M. McGruder and Marnel C. Moorman Jr., both of Shelbyville, were married Sept. 15, 2012, in Shelbyville.

    Parents of the bride are Kim M. McGruder and William Keith Mason, both of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of Laura Loving Moorman of Shelbyville and the late Marnel C. Moorman Sr.

    Rev. Charles Ashbyofficiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

    A reception was held at the Shelbyville Country Club.

    The couple will reside in Shelbyville.
