  • Engagement: Baker-Thomas

    Diana Baker of Shelbyville announces the engagement of her daughter, Jennifer Baker to William Thomas, both of Elizabethtown. She is the daughter of the late Scott Baker. He is the son of Keith and Terri Thomas of Elizabethtown.

    The wedding will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Brown Hotel in Louisville.

  • Engagement: Long-Hampton

    Tony and Laura Ann Long announce the engagement of their daughter Deidre Long of Waddy to Justin Hampton of Shelbyville.

    He is the son of Regena Whitaker and Ronald Hampton. The wedding will be at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13, 2014 at the Reynolds Farm located on Elmburg Road in Shelbyville.
     

  • 90th birthday: Bessie Chowning

    Bessie Chowning of Shelbyville (right) with her brother, Nelson Jones, celebrated her 90th birthday with a picnic in Owen County on the farm where she grew up. The photo is at the front gate of the farm. Family and friends from three states came to honor her. She has three children, Wanda Bailey, Nancy Metts, Mike Chowning; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

  • 50th Anniversary: William and Linda Jennings

    William and Linda Jennings have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on July 19, 1964 in Salem Baptist Church by Rev. Sugg.

    He worked as the Fertilizer Plant Manager beginning with Gro-Green in 1960 and retired with Crop Production Services in 2011 after 42 years. She worked as a Market Recorder for the tobacco market in Shelbyville and continues to work part-time with the Shelby County Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency.

  • Engagement: Yates-Curtsinger

    Joey and Kim Yates of Bagdad announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Yates of Bagdad, to Travis Curtsinger of Shelbyville. He is the son of Mark Curtsinger and Tracy Curtsinger, both of Bagdad.

    The wedding will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Reynolds Farm on Elmburg Road in Bagdad.

  • Wedding: Kristen Suzann Holloway and Casey Martin Page

    Kristen Suzann Holloway and Casey Martin Page were married May 24, 2014, at Highland Baptist Church, with Pastor Jay Tigner, officiating.

    The bride is the daughter of Richard and Danea Holloway of Finchville, and the groom is the son of Marty and Rachael Page of Finchville. Grandparents of the bride are David and Henrida Holloway and Janice Hightower. Grandparents of the groom are Jim Conti and Merilynn Page, and Harold and Dolores May Page, all of Louisville, and the late Mary Catherine Conti.

  • Wedding: Lydia Bell Thomas and David Lee Sherrer

    Lydia Bell Thomas of Shelbyville and David Lee Sherrer of Louisville were married May 25, 2014, at Chenoweth Farmon Cropper Road.

    Parents of the bride are Ted and Beth Thomas of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of Joseph and Freeda Sherrer of Phenix City, Ala.

    Rev. Bill Smith officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by Ted Thomas, father of the bride.

  • Workers thanked and needed

    The Shelby County Cemetery Preservation Board was thrilled with the turnout in July to clean the Pioneer Logan Cemetery on Brunerstown Road. Spokesperson Linda Pack Clemmons said another restoration day is scheduled for August 16 starting at 9:00 a.m. She advises volunteers to wear appropriate clothing and bring plenty of fluids/snacks.     Miranda Cox and Zachary Shawwere married on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Jeffersontown Christian Church in Louisville.

    Parents of the bride are Darrell and Carol Cox of Bagdad. She is the granddaughter of Harold Cox and the late Shirley Cox and Frank Kane and the late Doris Jean Lewis. The groom is the son of Richard and Tamera Shaw of Cropper. He is the grandson of the late James and Vivian Shaw and the late George Robison and Betty Sue Stethen-Crabb.
