  • Birth: Swigert son

    Mike and Tammy Swigert of Shelbyvilleannounce the birth of their second child, a son, on July 23, 2015, at Baptist Hospital East. He has been named Matthew David Swigert. He was born at 10:19 a.m., weighing 9 pounds and 9 ounces and 20.5 inches long. He has one brother, 8-year-old Dale.

    Grandparents are Judy and Virgil Brooks of DryRidge, and Mike and Janell Swigert of Shelbyville.

    Great-grandparent is Norma Swigert.

  • 40th anniversary: Wayne and Linda Miller

    Wayne Miller and Linda Anderson have been married for 40 years. The couple was married on Sept. 6, 1975, at Eminence Baptist Church by Pastor Bill Blackburn.

    They are member of Dover Baptist Church.

    They celebrated with their two children, Maranda Miller and Christopher Miller, and his wife, Nikki.

    Steven and Denise Summitt of Shelbyvilleannounce the birth of their first child, a daughter, on June 27, 2015, at Baptist Health. She has been named Jordyn Faith Summitt. She was born at 5:10 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 15.4 ounces and 19 inches long.

    Grandparents are Jim and Kim Raper of Cox’s Creek, Theresa Hedden of Shelbyville, Steve and Holly Summitt, Dean Moffett and Mary Rose, all of Shelbyville.

    Great-grandparents are Hazel Summitt and Alice Ryan.

  • Wedding: Rachel and Spencer Young

    Rachel and Spencer Young were married on June 13, 2015 at Highview Baptist Church.

    Parents of the bride are Brian and Becky Woodrow of Mt. Washington. The groom is the son of David and Robin Young of Bagdad.

    Wedding music was provided by Geoffrey McGillen of Shelbyville.

    Rev. Andy Schmitz officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

    The maid of honor was Katie Woodrow of Mt. Washington, sister of the bride.

  • Birth: Smith daughter

    Ryan and Jessie Smith of Shelbyville announce the birth of their third child, a daughter, on July 15, 2015 at Baptist Health of Louisville. She has been named Jenna Elizabeth Smith.

    Grandparents are Rob and Janevera Rothenburger, and Jim and Teresa Smith, all of Shelbyville.

  • 50th anniversary: Glen and Carolyn L. Seay Miller

    Glen and Carolyn L. Seay Miller of Shelbyville have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Sept. 4, 1965 at St. James United Church of Christ.

    They are the parents of Alex Miller (Michelle), Amanda Teague (Bob) and Andrew Miller. Their grandchildren are Kayla, Cordelia, Amy, Alyssa, Amber, Casey, Joseph, Ashlee; and great grandchildren, Ella, Molly and Johnny.

    They will celebrate from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 5 at Simpsonville Christian Church with family and friends.

  • 91st birthday: Bessie Chowning

    Bessie Chowning of Shelbyville celebrated her 91st birthday with a picnic in her honor on her farm in Owen County in July. Attending were approximately 100 people including her brother Nelson and Ti Jones and their family; and Bessie’s children, Wanda and Roy Bailey, Nancy and Phil Metts, Mike and Erica Chowning; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

  • Engagement: Beach-Peete

    Monique Beach and Vincent Peete announce their engagement.

    She is an art therapist and graduate of the University of Louisville, and is the daughter of Eric Beach and the late Leslie Beach of Shelbyville.

    He is an information technology coordinator, and the son of Eugene and Linda Peete of Simpsonville.

    The couple has planned their wedding for May 2016 in Louisville.
