  • Leadership Shelby Ag Day

    The class of 2015 Leadership Shelby were provided an educational overview of agricultural resources, products, opportunities, and challenges in Shelby County, visiting several farm operations – tobacco and grain, dairy, Huacaya alpacas, an Orchard, cattle and cutting horse and finally a tree and shrub farm.

  • Calvin L. Bolin to celebrate 90th

    Calvin L. Bolin of Shelbyville will celebrate his 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Graefenburg Baptist Church.

    Calvin and his wife, Mary Jane, have four children, Stephen (Connie) Bolin, Lynda (Bruce) Clark, Jennifer (Ken) Konstanzer and David Bolin; six grandchildren, Blake (Lydia) Bolin, Deirdre (Andy) Calvert, Lindsay (Ben) Thornley, Will (Ana) Clark, Robb Clark and Katie Konstanzer; and six great-grandchildren, Will, Anna and Nora Jane Thornley, Conlee, Rawlee and Berklee Bolin.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Mama/Mamow celebrates 100th

    Lillian “Mama/MaMow” Catlett of Shelbyville celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 6 with family and friends at the Masonic Home.

    She has six children and several grand, great and great-great-grandchildren.

  • Jammin’ and cruisin’

    Jim Casey not only packed his bags for a cruise on the Norwegian Sun in the Mexican Riviera, but he brought his bass guitar. Casey and his wife, Linda, spent evenings in the observation lounge waiting to play and sing with other pro and amateur cruisers. The Casey’s also were able to enjoy the sites as the ship visited ports at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

  • 60th anniversary: Charles O. and Barbara Thompson

    Charles O. and Barbara Thompson of Mount Eden have been married for 60 years. The couple was married on Oct. 11, 1954 at the home of Rev. Omer Coulter in Spencer County.

    He is a farmer.

    She is the former Barbara Love, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Love of Spencer County and retired from the Shelby County School system.

  • 65th anniversary: Joyce and Robert Green

    Joyce and Robert Green of Shelbyville have been married for 65 years. The couple was married on Oct. 6, 1949 at Graefenburg Baptist Church by Rev. George Roberts.

    He was a cattle broker at the Bourbon Stockyards in Louisville for 50 years.

    She was the former Joyce Ann Jamison of Frankfort and worked at the Bourbon Stockyards for 20 years.

  • Garland graduates from Cumberlands

    Heather White Garland of Simpsonville graduated from the University of the Cumberlands with a doctorate degree in educational leadership. She is the daughter of Edwin and Monica White and the wife of Kelland Garland and the mother to Emma, Ethan, and Addison. She is currently employed with the Oldham County Schools as the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader for the district.

  • 50th anniversary: The J. Howard Griffith

    The J. Howard Griffith and his wife, Linda L. Griffith, have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on June 7, 1964 in their home church in Fairmont, W.Va.

    He retired after 46 years in active ministry seven years ago. The last 21 years he served as Senior Minister of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville. 

    She retired after 20 years at Citizens Union Bank.

    The Griffiths have two children, Scott and Amy, and nine grandchildren.
