  • Old shoes hold memories of dad

    Diane Malone took this picture in 2003 on the day she wrote the Father's Day poem. Malone said something came over her when she was looking at the shoes. The shoes have had hen and chickens growing in them for 27-years. She wrote this for her dad, J.B. Yates, who died July 28, 1989. Her mother, Myrtle Yates, lives in Shelbyville.

     

    Of days that so slowly have gone by,

    he walked many, many miles.

    He always carried a warm smile,

    never weary did he seem,

  • Igleheart receives honors

    Ted Igleheart, resident at Crescent Place Assisted Living, was honored with the lifetime achievement award from the Kentucky Assisted Living Facilities Association. On hand for the award were (from left) Dennis McNatt, Ted and Libby Igleheart, Sarah and Joe Jurgensen.

  • 50th anniversary: Bucky and Nancy Goin Dalton

    Bucky and Nancy Goin Dalton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family on May 28.

    They were married by the Rev. John Chenault at First Christian Church on Ann St. in Frankfort on May 28, 1966.

    They have two children, Emily (Jeff) of Somerset; David (Amanda) of Shelbyville. They have seven grandchildren, Philip, Samuel, John, Kate of Somerset, and Emma, Matt, and Maya of Shelbyville.

  • 50th anniversary: Robert and Thelma Woods

    Robert and Thelma Woods have been married for 50 years. The couple was married June 11, 1966 in Frankfort by the Rev. Billy Craddock at Bellepoint Baptist Church.

    He retired from the Axton Candy and Tobacco Co. and now works part-time for the county government.  She worked as a beautician and instructional assistant at Henry Clay Elementary and Heritage Elementary before retiring. They are active members of Waddy Baptist Church and avid Shelby County Rocket and UK Wildcat fans.

  • Gipson crowned Miss Bagdad

    Breanna Gipson was crowned Miss Bagdad Days on May 14. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Billy and Regina Rice of Waddy.

  • Birth: Standafer daughter

    Ashley and Brandon Standafer announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 11:01 a.m. She has been named Kynlee Elizabeth.

    Sibling is big brother, Brennen Lee.

    Grandparents are Donna and Benny Gibbs of Simpsonville, Karen and Steve Standafer of Shelbyville.

  • 65th anniversary: Clarence and Barbara Sue Doyle

    Clarence and Barbara Sue Doyle celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 22.

    Barbara Sue Smith and Clarence Doyle Jr. were married by the Rev. Reno Tacoma, pastor of a Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, Ind., on May 22, 1951.

    They have spent all 65 years in either Simpsonville or Shelbyville, he as a farmer, employee of Kroger and Ford and landscaper, she in retail and as an agent/administrative assistant with the Tygrett and Armstrong insurance agencies.
