  • 60th anniversary: Don and Kay White

    Don and Kay White have been married for 60 years. The couple was married on July 25, 1954 by Rev. Rhea Gray in Lynn Acres Baptist Church in Louisville.

    He is a retired business owner and enjoys writing poetry.

    She is retired from the Shelbyville Municipal Water and Sewer Commission.

    They are members of Shelbyville First Baptist Church and have two children, David White of Frankfort and Dan White of Shelbyville, and four grandchildren.

  • 100th birthday: Mildred Martin Wright Putnam Kempton

    Mildred Martin Wright Putnam Kempton, of Shelbyville, will celebrate her 100th birthday from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday with an open house, hosted by her daughter and her grandchildren, at the Holiday Inn Express, Shelbyville. “Millie” was born on July 26, 1914 in Manson Iowa. She has two daughters, Charlotte Wright Sallee of Shelbyville and the late Marilyn Wright Moran Gunn; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren (and 1 on the way). Everyone is invited help Kempton celebrate this grand occasion.

  • Engagements: Lafferty-Gerber

    Wesley and Susan Lafferty of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Lafferty of Kokomo, Ind., to Carson Gerber of Kokomo.

    He is the son of Doug and Ruby Gerber of Bluffton, Ind.

    She is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and works as a photojournalist for the Kokomo Tribune.

    He is a graduate of Indiana University and works as a reporter for the Kokomo Tribune.

    A private wedding is planned for September.

  • 25th anniversary: Todd and Christal Armstrong

    Todd and Christal Armstrong of Shelbyville have been married for 25 years. The couple were married on June 4, 1989 and renewed their vows on June 4, 2014, on the beach of Siesta Key in Florida with their daughter, Cara Armstrong; son, Matthew Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Toni Benskin; and grandson, Lucas Armstrong.

    He has been a rail loader for RCS Transportation for 16 years.

    She has been a financial analyst for Ricoh for 21 years.

  • Cub Scout day camp

    The Lincoln Heritage Council, Daniel Boone District, had Cub Scout day camp at Clear Creek Park. Mayor Tom Hardesty and representatives from several local agencies (police, fire, public works, etc.) came to have lunch with the scouts. The Cub Scouts had just been sprayed with water from both city and county fire departments, so Hardesty (center in front row) got a bit wet in the photo.

    Don and Karen Lisby of Finchville have been married for 15 years. The couple was married on July 2, 1999 at Gallrein Farms.

    He is self-employed as a custom homebuilder and she is an office manager for Kentucky One Health Cardiology Associates.

    They are the parents of Krista Brown of Pleasureville, Matt Lisby of Owensboro, Naven Brown of Sturgis, Lauren Lisby of Finchville and John Lisby of Finchville and have six grandchildren.
