• Waddy girl participates in NAM

    Abigail Lee Alexander of Waddy was chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kentucky pageant, which is May 9-May 11 in Louisville for girls ages 7 through 9.

    Abigail, 9, participates in cheerleading, soccer, gymnastics and Girl Scouts and enjoys reading and writing. She is the daughter Lucy Alexander.

    Her sponsors are Margaret Armstrong, Valerie Alexander, Bobby Alexander and Noal Cotton Jr.

  • 30th anniversary: Gerald “Jerry” and JoJo Heltsley

    Gerald “Jerry” and JoJo Heltsley of Shelbyville have been married for 30 years. The couple was married on March 10, 1984, in Russellville.

    She is the former Josephine Broughton, a former member of Eastern Star and retired. She runs JoJo’s Karaoke Service in Shelbyville.

    He is a member of the Mason’s and works for Thornton’s Inc.

    They are members of Finchville Baptist Church.

  • Births: Bolin son

    Shane and Lisa Bolin of Shelbyville announce the birth of their first child, a son, on Feb. 2, 2014 at Norton’s Suburban in Louisville. He has been named Christopher Charles Bolin.

    Grandparents are Wallace and Connie Bolin, Paul Donald and June Gilbert and Danny and Judy McCann, all of Shelbyville.

    Great-grandparents are Thornton Ware of Shelbyville, Mary Gilbert of Quincy, the late Charles Whitcomb, Paul Gilbert, Tom McCann, Sarah Whitcomb Stamper, Wilena Ware, Lorraine Ware, Jeanette Bolin, and Corene and Justice Smith.

  • Rotary Speech contest winners

    The 2014 Shelbyville Rotary Club Speech contest was held Saturday at the office of Mathis, Riggs and Prather in Shelbyville, and winners were (from left) J.P. Poole from Corpus Christi Academy, second place; N. River Fuchs from Shelby County High School, third place; and Bethany Griffin from Corpus Christi Academy, first place. Bethany will compete in the Rotary Club District 6710 Sectional Speech contest at noon March 25 at Centenary United Methodist Church.

  • Myles competes basic training

    Pvt. John T. Myles II completed a 13-week United States Marine Corps basic training course on Jan. 24 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.

    Myles was a member of the First Recruit Training Battalion, Alpha Company, Platoon 1005.

    A 2013 graduate of Anderson County High School, he is the son of Robert W. Myles and Charlene T. Myles and grandson of World War II Veteran and distinguished Flying Cross recipient Edmund N. Myles.

    John Miranda and Rosemary Barry were crowned king and queen at Crescent Place Assisted Living. He has five children, and she has three.

    Isaiah Drawbaugh celebrated his first birthday Feb. 12, 2014.

    He is the son of Stephen and Amanda Drawbaugh of Shelbyville.

    Grandparents are Ricky and Nancy Drawbaugh and Debbie Humphrey, all of Shelbyville, and David Bohannon of Finchville.
