• Luminary ceremony remembers cancer victims

    During the local American Cancer Society Relay For Life, participants will have the chance to remember loved ones and honor those battling cancer with a luminary ceremony. This ceremony is 10 p.m. at Shelby County High School on June 13.

  • Randolph wedding

    Jill Murphyand Robert Randolph were married Jan. 18, 2015 at The Heitman House, in Fort Myers, Fla.

    Parents of the bride are Pat and Cindy Murphy of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of John Randolph of Fort Myers, Fla. and Anne Randolph of Naples, Fla. The bride was given in marriage by her mother and father, escorted by her father. Kelly Scott, Director of Athletes in Action at the University of Virginia, officiated the double-ring ceremony.

  • Art at Cornerstone

    Students at Cornerstone Christian Academy practiced “painting like Michelangelo” during the high school art history class.

  • Redwoods ‘plant’ donations

    Members of the Redwoods women’s group donated clothing and money to the Family Resource Center at the Northside Early Childhood Center where they met for their March meeting. The group is associated with Centenary United Methodist Church.


  • Shelby County United Way at capitol
  • One Book One Community

    Megan Langlois prepares the paperback book, “Field of Dead Horses” by Kentucky author Nick Allen Brown for the One Book, One Community program scheduled for April 16. This is the seventh year the Shelby County Public Library has offered this community-wide read event by distributing the book a month before the author will be discussing his book during National Library Week. The free book can be picked up beginning March 16 at the circulation desk and are limited one per patron.

  • Serving for Relay

    The Relay for Life committee hosted a dining night at Zaxby’s, serving and cleaning up to receive a percentage of the sales. They were happy with the turnout, bringing in $385.85 for the cancer-fighting event. Information was available for the Shelby County Relay for Life event which will be June 13 at Shelby County High School.

  • 2015 pack 270 Pinewood Derby racers

    22 Cub Scouts and adults participated in the Cub Scout Pack 270 Pinewood Derby at the First Christian Church. Overall winners were Wyatt Meyers, third place; Micah Langness, second place; and Anthony Wooldridge, first place.

  • FFA goes to church Sunday

    Rockbridge United Methodist Church hosted the Western Hills High School FFA on "FFA Goes to Church Sunday" as a part of FFA week. Following worship the students, their sponsors and families shared in a meal with the church, and the students spoke about the FFA program.
