  • Reunion: Purvis

    The Kightley Purvis and Icy Stivers Purvis family reunion was Sept. 15 at the Henry County Fairgrounds’ 4-H building.

  • 60th anniversary: Baker

    Roy and Dorothy Baker have been married for 60 years.

    The couple was married on Sept. 28, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville by C.W. Elsey.

    They have five children, Robert Baker and Janet Gremillion of Lexington, Donna Cavender of Heflin, Ala., and Theresa Atha and Nathan Baker of Shelbyville

  • Masters joins Kentucky National Guard

    Jennifer L. Masters is the newest member of The Kentucky National Guard. She enlisted as a Health Care Specialist in the local medical unit and will leave for her initial training on Jan 6, 2014.

    When she returns from her training, she said she is planning to use her $60,000 of National Guard college benefits to attend and complete her education at Sullivan University in Louisville.

  • Engagement: Clark-Fields

    Mike Clark and Sherrie Herndon, and James and Kay Braid, all of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Makaila Clark, to Joey Fields. He is the son of Ron and Darlene Trandell of Murrieta, Calif.

    She is a 2005 graduate of Shelby County High School.

    He is a 1998 graduate of Shelby County High School and works with Norfolk Southern Railroad.

    The wedding will take place at 5 p.m. Oct. 12, 2013, at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Engagement: Lucas-Bailey

    Linda and Robert H. Lucas of Ekron announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa G. Lucas of Louisville, to Thomas A. Bailey of Louisville. He is the son of Helen Ann and Ben Bailey of Shelbyville.

    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 23, 2013, at Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington.

  • I'm one: Claire McLeod

    Claire Elaine McLeod celebrated her first birthday on Sept. 21.

    She is the daughter of James and Amy McLeod of Brandon, Miss.

    Grandparents are Denise and Jake Bryan and Jackie Willard, all of Shelbyville; and Larry and Pat McLeod of Brandon.

    Great-grandparents are Mary Mathews and Shirley Newton of Shelbyville, Curt Willard of Eminence, Bernard and Maxine Nail of Brandon and the late Frank W. Mathews, R.G. and Ruth Bryan and James and Lanell McLeod.

  • I'm one: Elliot Dathan Sowder

    Elliot Dathan Sowder celebrated his first birthday on Tuesday.

    He is the son of Bradley and Misty Sowder of Shelbyville and the brother of Makenzie.

    Grandparents are C.B. and Kim Sowder of Shelbyville and Darrell and Carol Cox of Bagdad.

    Great-grandparents are Harold Cox of Bagdad, D.C. Sowder of Bardstown, Frank Kane of Shelbyville and Fred and Loretta "Sam" Sage of Florida.

  • Wedding: Newman

    Tiffany Renee Bohannon and Brian Eugene Newman were married March 16, 2013, at Michael and Donna Bohannon’s barn.

    Parents of the bride are Michael and Donna Bohannon of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of Dale and Patricia Newman of Shelbyville.

    Rev. David Robinson officiated the single-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    Maid of honor was Casey Bohannon of Shelbyville, sister-in-law of the bride.

    Best man was Chris Bohannon of Shelbyville, brother-in-law of the groom.

  • Birth: Butler daughter

    Kevin and Anna Butler of Smithfield announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, on July 29, 2013, at Baptist East Louisville. She has been named Emily Peyton Butler.

    She was born at 8:46 p.m., weighing 7 pounds and 7.6 ounces, and was 20 inches long. Her older sibling is 2-year-old Gavin.

    Grandparents are Jim and Lynn Hobbs of Shelbyville and Colette Sloss of Hatfield, Pa.

  • 50th anniversary: S.K. and Barbara Zimmerman

    S.K. and Barbara Zimmerman of Shelbyville have been married for 50 years. The couple was married on Sept. 29, 1963, in Jacksonville, Ill.

    They have one daughter, Debbie Zimmerman of Indianapolis, and one son, Kelly (Michelle) Zimmerman of Shelbyville. Their grandchildren are Tyler, Sarah and Zach Zimmerman.

    They will celebrate with family and friends with an open house. All friends and relatives are invited.
