    Robby and Cherie Maynardof Shelbyville announce the birth of their second child, a son, on May 29, 2012 at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville. He has been named Cason Robert Maynard. Born at 11:05 a.m., he weighed 8 pounds and 5 ounces and was 19.5 inches. He has an older brother, 4-year-old Jake.

    Grandparents are Ronnie and Carolyn Bland of Bagdad, Gene and Joann Maynard of Simpsonville.

    Drew and Adriane Carlson Ruther of Oxford, Ohio, announce the birth of their second child, a son, on July 6, 2012. He has been named Sylvan Douglas Ruther.

    Grandparents are Doug and Cathy Carlson of Shelbyville, Bob and Diane Vierling and Mike and Marilyn Ruther, both of College Corner, Ohio. Great grandmothers are Vi Carlson of Hagerstown, Md., and Amy Fuss of Williamsport, Md.

    Alberto and Loretta Ponce of Radcliff announce the engagement of their daughter, Tiffani Ponce of Radcliff, to Chris Waits of Shelbyville. He is the son of Darrell and Barbara Waits of Shelbyville.

    She is a graphic design student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and employed at Walmart.

    He is employed at Bluegrass Magic Gameshop and Walmart.

    The wedding will take place at 4 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2012, at her parents' home in Radcliff.

    Amanda McClain of Shelbyville and Mark Coots of Pleasureville were married Sept. 15, 2012, at Chandler Ridge in Bagdad.

    Parents of the bride are Ann Lear and Peewee McClain of Shelbyville. The groom is the son of Jeanie McCarty and Joseph Yocum of Shelbyville.

    Morris Lyons officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her dad.

    Maid of honor was Kayla McClain of Shelbyville, the bride’s sister.

    Best man was Darrell Tipton of Shelbyville, the groom’s friend.

  • Fun (and fundraising) in the sun

    On a sunny first day of fall, the second annual Gallrein Family Fundraiser on Saturday presented all sorts of activities to raise money for Operation Care, A Loving Choice Pregnancy Center, the Shelby County Backpack Project and Open Door of Hope men’s shelter. Participants enjoyed the usual s such as the petting zoo, hay pyramid, hay rides and visits to the pumpkin patch, but they also took their shots with slingshots at their less favorite teams – or maybe a coach for one of them.
