• Trowell graduates from basic combat training

    Army Pfc. Asia N. Trowell graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

  • 50th anniversary: Donnie and Rosie Holmes

    Donnie and Rosie Holmes of Southville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Dec. 21, 1963, in Tennessee.

    They have three children, Tammy Snider and her husband, Michael, Rhonda Collins and her husband, James, and Keith Holmes and his wife, Amy. They have been blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

  • 50th anniversary: Herman and Peggy VanMeter Perry

    Herman and Peggy VanMeter Perry were married Dec. 21, 1963, at the Centenary Methodist Church in Shelbyville by Rev. Harold Mauney and Rev. William Hisle. They are retired.

    Their children, Sarah McGee and Chip Perry, will host a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Bagdad Ruritan Club for friends and family.

    Arnold and Jeanette Thurman were married on Dec. 20, 1953, in Danforth Chapel at Berea College.

    Candice Jessi Call and Aaron Clay Zehnder were married on July 6, 2013, at the Charlestown Road Church of Christ in New Albany, Ind.

    Parents of the bride are Doug and Ramona Call of Crestwood. The groom is the son of Matt and Ellen Zehnder of Shelbyville.

    Rev. Roger Shouse officiated the ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    Maid of honor was Leslie Ward of Mount Washington, friend of bride.

    The Sentinel-Newsagain this year invites children to write letters to Santa Claus or submit a drawing about Christmas to be judged for a prize, with as many entries as possible being published in a special section on Christmas Eve.

    The letters, by children ages 6 to 9, can be about a child’s Christmas wishes and also about what the holiday means to him or her.
