  • Armed Forces: Hartlage graduates basic training

    Air Force Airman Rebecca J. Hartlagegraduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Armed Forces: Airman Reed graduates

    Airman Stryder Reed graduated from BMT at Lackland A.F.B. in San Antonio on Jan. 23, 2015. He was a member of the 331 TRS (Wolfpack Squadron) FLT 074.
     

    He is entering the USAF as a Munitions Specialist and his first assignment is going to be Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska after he finishes his (AIT) Tech School at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX in March.

    Stryder is a 2012 graduate of Shelby County High School and the son of Shannon and Lana Reed. He is engaged to be married to Madisen Brewer of Shelbyville.

  • Cornerstone spirit week

    Cornerstone Christian Academy celebrated its 2015 Homecoming in January. The students celebrated spirit week activities, which included special dress days for students and staff.

  • Armed Forces: Dylan Hellinger

    Army Pvt. Dylan M. Hellingerhas graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

  • 55th anniversary: Reynolds “Buddy” and Marie Stewart Chappell

    Reynolds “Buddy” and Marie Stewart Chappell have been married for 55 years. The couple was married on Feb. 19, 1960 at Simpsonville Baptist Church.

    He retired from Ford Motor Company after 31 years and she is a retired homemaker.

    They are the parents of Lorie Chappell and Alan Chappell of Shelby County and have one grandson, Clay Chappell of Bowling Green.

  • Engagement: Shannon-Penick

    John and Lesley Shannon of Shelbyville announce the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Cathryn Shannon of Simpsonville to Paul Wesley Penick of Louisville.

    He is the son of Paul and Tonya Penick of Louisville.

    She is a 2010 graduate of Shelby County High School and a 2014 graduate of Campbellsville University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She is currently employed by Monnington Farm in Simpsonville.

  • Child wedding

    Bethany Tipton and Bradley Andrew Childs were married Oct. 11, 2014 at the Olde Stone clubhouse in Bowling Green.

    Parents of the bride are Connie and Matthew Tipton of Russellville. The groom is the son of Mary Bradley and the late Ben Andrew Childs.

    Rev. Vincent James and Rev. Carl E. Whitfield officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Matthew Tipton.

    Madena Tipton, the bride’s sister, was the maid of honor.

  • 25th anniversary: David and Dana Jenkins

    David and Dana Jenkins will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmburg Baptist Church. All friends and relatives are invited.

    The couple was married on Jan. 27, 1990, at Hempridge Baptist Church by Rev. Steve Boyd. They reside in Elmburg and have two children, Debra and Dakota Jenkins, both of Shelbyville.
