• Open Door chili cook-off

    The 2015 class of Leadership Shelby held a chili cook-off fundraiser during Open Door of Hope’s “Homeless for a Night” event. Participating teams were Shelby County EMS, Shelbyville Fire Department, Collins High School, MetroSafe 911 and Simpsonville Fire Department. Decorated wooden spoons for the winners were made by Bethany Tucker.

    Cornerstone Christian Academy students participated in “See You at the Pole,” a national school student prayer event.

  • Engagement: Jackson-Harley

    Darrell and Kristen Jackson announce the engagement of their daughter, Kaylan Jackson to Eric Harley, all of Brownsburg, Ind. He is the son of Mike and Kim Grilley, and Jeff Harley, all of Shelbyville.

    The wedding will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2015 at Princess Hall – Sleep Inn and Suites, Indianapolis, Ind.

    She is a 2012 graduate of Brownsburg High School and 2014 graduate from Sullivan University with a degree in baking and pastry and is currently a teacher at Beginning Steps Ministry

  • 50th anniversary: Tom and Fay Yadon McClurkin

    Tom and Fay Yadon McClurkin were married Nov. 7, 1965, in Louisville. 

    He Served in Vietnam Nam with the U.S. Navy, Retired from AT&T after 38.5 years. 

    She has been a hairdresser for 50 years.

    They have 2 children, Robert (Angela), Kathy McClurkin; five grandchildren, Holly, Spencer, Jamie, Lucy and Kayla.

    They will celebrate at Claudia Sanders Dinner House with family and friends.

  • 50th anniversary: Carlene Nethery and Charles Cook Jr.

    Carlene Nethery and Charles Cook Jr. were married Sept. 10, 1965, at Briar Ridge Christian Church.

    He is retired from the Department of Transportation and GE, and she is retired from Spencer County Public Schools. They continue to reside in their home in Taylorsville.

    They have two children, Shawn and Phillip Shannon Cook, both of Mount Eden; three grandchildren, Dalton Cook, Lily Cook, and Matthew Cook.

  • Engagement: Malan-O’Malley

    Jamee Malan and Mark O'Malley of Indianapolis, Ind., announce their engagement to be married.

    She is the daughter of Swuiheng Ma and Xinfeng Zhou of Henan China, and Sandee and Robert Redman of Wadesville, Ind.

    He is the son of Sue and Jim O'Malley of Mount Eden.

    A fall wedding is planned in Shelbyville.
