Met production
at Frankfort theater
The Grand Theatre will present a new Metropolitan Opera production of the Philip Glass opera “Satyagraha” in a live, high-definition broadcast at Frankfort’s Grand Theatre at 12:55 p.m. Saturday.
 “Satyagraha,” (Sanskrit for “force of truth”), recounts Mahatma Gandhi’s formative years in South Africa as a leader in non-violent social protest. The visually extravagant opera was originally staged at the Met in 2008. Richard Croft sings the title role.

Civil War ghost stories

Thursday at library

Thomas Freese and Brian Bush are back with more hair-raising storytelling of Civil War ghost stories.

They will share their scary tales at 6-7 p.m. Thursday on the front lawn of the Shelby County Library, 309 8th Street.

First-person accounts of ghosts encountered on the battlefields of the civil war, plus battlefield backgrounds and history will be presented. If inclement weather, this event will be held in the Hudson room.

‘Night Mother,a powerful play that won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize, will be performed this weekend in the Upstairs at 801 series produced at the Shelby County Community Theatre.

Cheryl Van Stockum and Erin Block star in this dramatic story of the final hour in the life of a young woman who has decided that life is no longer worth living.

‘Night Mother waswritten by Marsha Norman and is being directed locally by Rick Reinle.

From historical re-enactments and lectures to parades and festivals to celebrating pets and commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9-11, there are three days of activities all over the county.

The annual commemoration of the Long Run Massacre and Floyd’s Defeat, presented by the Painted Stone Settlers already began for students today and continues through Sunday at Red Orchard Park.
