    ‘Honk Jr.’ tickets on sale today

    Tickets go on sale today for Shelby County Community Theatre's Youth Series production of Honk! Jr., music by George Stiles. The play is a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling and is directed by James Ray Morgan.

    Performances are Sept. 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 23 and 30 at 2:30. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 seniors, and $10 students. For reservations, call 502-633-0242.

    Drama presentation at coffee house

    Drama workshop coach Libby Sears Blair will introduce her drama workshop team of players at 4 p.m. Saturday at Sixth and Main Coffeehouse, 547 Main St. in Shelbyville.

    These sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, the West Side Players, will use their new skills to present classic American poetry and prose.

    Shelby native Sheehy lands 2 roles at outdoor theater

    Shelbyville native Michael Sheehy, a student at the University of Kentucky, and is  spending the summer working at the Snow Camp Outdoor Theatre in Snow Camp, N.C., a professional outdoor drama that produces two historical shows, a children’s show and a Broadway musical.

    Sheehy will be playing Hannibal Quave in Pathway to Freedomand George in The Sword of Peace.

    Shelby actor performs
    in Frankfort show

    Clint Gill of Shelbyville has a role in Director Kathi E.B. Ellis’s production of The Tempest, which is today and Saturday and June 14-16 Josephine Sculpture Park, 3355 Lawrenceburg Road in Frankfort. Tickets are $10 for the shows, which start at 7 p.m.
    Ellis has directed numerous shows at Shelby County Community Theatre, and Gill has performed there many times as well.

    Military members admitted free
    for Abbey Road on the River

    Members of the U.S. military and their families can get free tickets to this weekend’s Abbey Road on the River, which bills itself as the largest Beatles-inspired festival in the world.
    The event is ongoing through Monday at Belvedere Park and Galt House Hotel in Louisville. To redeem the free tickets, just show a valid military I.D. at the box office upon arrival. Family members with a dependant I.D. can also get tickets (limit 4), which are valid for all days.

  • Memorial Day celebration set for Grove Hill

    The spirit of patriotism will abound again this year when Shelby County celebrates Memorial Day.

    Memorial Day festivities will begin at Grove Hill Cemetery with a walking tour that will start from the chapel at 9:30 a.m. and take in some monuments of those who served in the armed forces, will be hosted by Friends of Grove Hill. Some of those deceased veterans served in the Revolutionary War.

    After the tour, led by historian Mike Harrod, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1179 will conduct a Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. at the chapel.
