    One book – one community

    A community-wide read of Ahab’s Wife, written by Sena Jeter Naslund, will be from 6 to 7 p.m. April 17 at the Shelby County Public Library, 309 8th St. A kickoff for the book give-a-way will be Monday. One book per person, no reserves. Registration is requested for seating purposes and notification of any program changes.     Theatre announces schedule for The Foreigner

    The Shelby County Community Theatre will perform Larry Shue’s The Foreigner April 17-19 and 25-26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2:30 p.m. The Foreigner is directed by Dr. Jack Wann, and sponsored by Martinrea Heavy Stampings, Inc. and Village Plaza Shopping Center. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 seniors, and $10 students. For reservations, call 502-633-0242 after April 3. The theatre is located at 801 Main Street in Shelbyville.

    ‘Hepburn Girls’ to be show on Sunday

    The Hepburn Girls, an independent film shot in and around Shelby County – locations include Tracy's Home Furniture, Science Hill Dining Room, Sixth and Main Coffeehouse and Grove Hill Cemetery – and including Shelby County actors will have a 1-time, encore screening on Sunday.

    You can see the film, written and produced by Ashley Raymer-Brown and Rachael Yeager – at 3 p.m. at the Village 8 theaters on Dutchman's Lane in Louisville.

    Christian artists perform at Cornerstone tonight

    Cornerstone Christian Academy is hosting The Hands of God Tour, featuring contemporary Christian recording artists Francesca Battistelli, Sanctus Real, All Things New and Jon Bauer, is Saturday at the school.

    Doors open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 7. 

    Tickets $24 advance general admission and $26 at the door. Groups of 10 or more are $22 each. Limited VIP tickets for assigned front-section seating are $40.

    Sandy Hensley of Shelby Count is among the artists featured in Kentucky Crafted: The Market, the Kentucky Arts Council’s annual fine art and craft showcase featuring thousands of handcrafted items created by the commonwealth’s best artists.

    Simpsonville magician Dave Cottrell will entertain Saturday in a special family fun day at the Shelby County Public Library.

    His magic show will begin at 11 a.m. in the Hudson room. The show is free and for all ages.

    Grammy winner Stuart performing in Frankfort

    Country music star Marty Stuart will appear at the Grand Theatre, 308 St. Clair St. in Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.

    Stuart won the first of five Grammy awards in 1992, when he and Travis Tritt collaborated on “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’.” He also has recorded duets with performers as diverse as B.B. King and Willie Nelson.

    Shelbyville native part of ‘100 fascinating’ women

    JoAnn Childs James, a native of Shelbyville who resides in Prospect, is featured in a collection of stories and pictures titled 100 Fascinating Louisville Women.

    She will participate in a discussion and book signing at 3-5 p.m. Feb. 9 at Elim Baptist Church,  3114 Greenwood Ave. in Louisville.

    for comedy ‘Nunsense’

     

    Tickets go on sale next Friday for Shelby County Community Theatre's upcoming production of Nunsense, a musical comedy by Dan Goggin. The show is directed by Mike Seely.

    Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14, 15, 21 and 22 and at 2 p.m. Feb 16 and 23.

    Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. For reservations, call 502-633-0242.
