Shelby artist Brown among presenters at Derby event

Marti Brown of Shelbyville is one of 14 Kentucky Crafted artists who will exhibit handmade art and crafts and offer goods for sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the lawn of the Old State Capitol as part of the Governor's Derby Celebration festivities.

Brown’s presentation will be called “Made on Magnolia” and will be among a variety of media and approaches displayed at the event.

Art to meet death in mortuary seminar

Shelby Artists on Main will be hosting a presentation regarding art in the mortuary service field, featuring Angie Walters, an artist who is studying the mortuary.

He presentation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Gallery at 617 Main St. in Shelbyville.

Greathouse act relives post-Revolutionary times

Harry Smith will present “Private William Greathouse, Proud Kentucky Militiaman, 1794-1876” in a free performance at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Shelby County Public Library.

Smith’s presentation will highlight the War of 1812 and the 3,500 Kentuckians who answered a call to fight.

‘Cornbread Mafia’ author to

speak at library next week

James Higdon, whose Cornbread Mafia, about a drug-dealing syndicate in Marion County, has been very popular, will speak about his book at the Shelby County Public Library.

Higdon will appear at 6-7 p.m. March 14, and the event requires registration for seating purposes. You can reserve your seat or learn more by calling 633-3803.
