Through a process of meticulous carving, etching, and hammering, Dr. Steve Halla has learned to create near photograph quality designs with a piece of wood and ink. For Halla, the craft is more than just creating a work of art - it is a prayer, carved in wood.
Halla, who has been working with woodcuts for eight years, said that he can spend up to 25 hours at his dining room table in Mt. Eden, etching and creating a single woodcut design. He said that his desire to create the designs is an extension of his Christian faith.
