Gardening expert Jeneen Wiche will be a featured presenter Saturday at the second annual Shelbyville Home Expo.

The Home Expo runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Floral Hall at Shelby County Fair Grounds and features exhibits from businesses that support home building and remodeling industries.

Wiche will appear at about 1 p.m. to discuss soil preparation, seeds, plants and designing an easy-care vegetable garden. She will have a question and answer time after her talk.

The Home Expo is an opportunity for the people of Shelby County to see that

resources -- housing purchases, building and remodeling -- can all be found in Shelby County.

Last year, the Expo was held in July, and organizer Nathan Poole, Citizens Union Bank assistant vice-president of mortgage lending said he hoped that the earlier spring date will help visitors take advantage of an early start on building or remodeling.

Those represented at the Home Expo include realtors, heating and cooling companies, home security, furniture, insurance and finances.

"It's an opportunity to interact with people," said Carol Bolton, manager of Tracy's Home Furnishings. "We felt like it was very beneficial to the business [last year]."

One of the participants, Shelby Broadband, is installing wireless Internet reception in Floral Hall for all exhibitors.

And Bolton said Tracy's will have items from all their areas represented, furniture, bedding, appliances and TVs. The store will also have its Web site, www.tracyshomefurnishings.com, ready to show. Their new blog, The Latest Thing, is also up and running, Bolton said.

Krisin Mathis-Green of Coldwell Banker Rogers Realty said that the event is the "perfect time. In the Spring. Right after Derby!"

Mathis-Green, a realtor and certified distressed property expert, hopes to interest visitors to the Expo in some of her listings. She will show properties via a virtual tour on her laptop.

Coldwell Banker has about 195 listings for single-family homes and property. Most of those listings are in Shelby County.

Many of the exhibitors will have raffles or giveaways during the Home Expo. For example, Graybeal Air Systems will give away a year-long Partners (maintenance) Agreement.

Other exhibitors give away items like key chains and pens.

The Home Expo is co-sponsored by Citizens Union Bank and The Sentinel-News.
