What would you like in Sports?

-A A +A
By Josh Cook

When I started as the Sentinel-News’s sports writer back in October of 2010 I had a simple goal, make this Sports section the best it could be.

That’s what I’ve strived for every day on the job, and in every edition of the paper.

And although I’m pleased with the results (I’m a perfectionist, so I’m never going to be completely happy with everything), I’m always looking to improve the section.

So, as we begin a new year, I figure it’s a perfect time to try and do some new things with the section, in the hopes of making it better.

However it’s not something I can, or want to, undertake alone. So with that in mind I would like to enlist your help. I would like some input from you, the reader, because if not for you, after all, I wouldn’t have a job in the first place.

I want to know what you think, and what you want.

What would you like to see more of in the Sports pages? What would you like to see less of?

More pictures?

Fewer words?

More coverage of middle school and youth sports?

More coverage of outdoor sports (i.e. hunting, fishing)?

More coverage of golf?

More coverage of underwater basket-weaving (just checking to make sure you’re still paying attention)?

More coverage of the basketball and football teams at the universities of Kentucky and Louisville?

More opinions from me? No opinions from me?

I’m also open to any ideas you might have too. Is there something, or someone, specific you think would make a good story? Let me know.

If you would like to see more of something in the newspaper, this is your chance. If you would like to see less of something in the newspaper, this is your chance too. Let me know what changes you would like to see.

While I can’t guarantee that every suggestion will be implemented into the newspaper, I can guarantee that everyone will be pondered and given consideration.

So shoot me an E-mail (jcook@sentinelnews.com), call me (633-2526, ext. 108) or send me a message on Twitter (@jcsentinelnews) because I want to hear what you have to say.

Don’t be shy, but don’t be upset with me if it’s a day or two before I get back to you. In addition to being in the midst of covering several winter sports teams I’m also on the cusp of becoming a father for the second time in the next month or so. I only ask that you keep the four-letter words to a minimum and keep in mind that I may use some, or all, of your responses in a future column.

So with all that in mind, what would you like to see in this Sports section?

Let me know because I’d love to have your help in making this the best section it can be in the new year.
