The Shelbyville Horse Show, judged by tourism officials to be one of the 10 best summer events in Kentucky, lived up to its reputation again this past weekend.

Under sunny if steamy skies – a nice change from a year ago – the show’s 21st annual edition brought in nice crowds and amazing animals.

A good time was shared by all, and the best of the performers will advance later this month to the center stage of horse shows at the Kentucky State Fair.

The event also provided a much-needed if expected boost to the economy in the county.

We don’t say often enough how much we appreciate the efforts of Edward “Hoppy” and R.H. Bennett and their staff and volunteers.

This is much like a 4-day county fair, with tents, prizes and food and beverages to be acquired, erected and distributed. It takes a community effort.

What is a labor of love for those who participate is a gift back to all of us.

We appreciate the community spirit of the Bennetts and those who assist them.

It helps make Shelby County seem just a little bit more wonderful to the world.
