Waddy man indicted for rape, sodomy, abuse

A Waddy man has been indicted on several felony sex-related charges against a child.

Farryl D. Stratton, 52, was indicted by a Shelby County Grand Jury on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse.

The indictment states the offenses all as occurring on the same day, April 25, against the same minor child, listed as less than 16 years of age.

Stratton’s relationship to the child was not stated. He was arrested on the charges June 6 and is still lodged at the Shelby County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.

First-degree rape and first-degree sodomy are Class B felonies in this case, which carry a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison, as the charges are more severe when perpetrated against a children less than 12 years old. 

First-degree sexual abuse is a Class D felony, punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison, unless the victim is under 12 years old, then it is a C felony, punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison.
