The City of Shelbyville is alone in its quest to move Halloween.

Shelbyville officials announced Wednesday morning that trick or treating for Halloween would move to Friday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

But Shelby County Judge Executive Rob Rothenburger said the county would not make any changes.

“Halloween trick or treating will be Thursday night from 5 to 7,” he said. “Someone at the Sheriff’s office probably picked that up from the city and added the county on without confirming it. We are not changing.”

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office had posted on its Facebook page that both Shelbyville and Shelby County would be moving trick or treating times. Rothenburger said his office would contact the Sheriff’s Office to fix the confusion.

Simpsonville officials also have stated that they are not moving Halloween times.

Village Plaza’s event has also been changed to Friday and remains from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. as well.

Shelbyville, however, is making this change despite its own ordinance that states that Halloween will be celebrated on Oct. 31 unless it falls on a Sunday. The county and the City of Simpsonville do not have Halloween ordinances.

Shelbyville officials have cited that the change is due to numerous requests from parents because of inclement weather predicted for Thursday.
