Wright Elementary will host Trims and Whims this weekend, an annual arts and crafts sale, now in its 27th year.

The event will feature a hodgepodge of mostly Kentucky crafts, including beaded-jewelry, purses, aprons, belts, candles ornaments and more.

"They will be homemade items for the most part," said Lynda Tharp, an organizer of the event.

About 82 craft vendors will be showcased this year. Last year the event was so popular about 30 craft vendors were placed on a waiting list.

"We will also be running a tea room and a Kris Kringle booth," Tharp said. Sandwiches, soups, desserts and baked goods will be sold at the two sites.

In 2006 Trims and Whims raised more than $5,900 for sponsoring Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority. Proceeds from the event support education, scholarships and other civic causes.

The event is expected to draw about 800 people each day, Tharp said.
