Shelbyville natives Rachel Shannon and Kelsie Witham are among 55 members of the Kentucky Baptist Collegiate Ministries serving in  this summer with the 1:8 Leadership Experience.

Initiated in 2008 with a group of 19 students, the 1:8 Leadership Experience has equipped students to serve as short-term missionaries in Louisville, McDowell, Denver, San Francisco, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and countries in Europe and Asia. Of the 75 previous 1:8 participants, 26 have taken steps toward full-time Christian service.

This year’s trips began May 31 and will conclude July 27, with destinations of Shelbyville/Ecuador, Denver/San Francisco, New York/Central Asia, and Thailand/East Asia.

Shannon is a student at Campbellsville University, and Witham attends Morehead State University.
