Fern Creek came into Friday night’s high school football game at Collins with a talented trio of seniors who are headed to the University of Louisville next year.
However it was the Titans’ senior threesome of Brendan Cresap, Tavis Elzy and Ben Axline who stole the show in Collins’ 34-14 victory over the Tigers at Titans Stadium.
Cresap passed for 265 yards and three touchdowns, Elzy had nine catches for 129 yards and a TD and Axline had a receiving touchdown as well as an interception return TD as Collins (8-1) completed an undefeated regular season on its home field with a victory over a Class 6-A school.
The Titans jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back in one of their most impressive victories of the season. Fern Creek (3-5) out-gained Collins in total offense (372 yards to 283), however, the Titans capitalized on five Tiger turnovers to post their sixth straight win.
UofL recruits Jalen Harrington and Jerrell Moore combined for 328 yards of total offense and both of Fern Creek’s touchdown. Harrington rushed for 166 yards - including a 26-yard TD with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the game - and had three catches for 52 yards. Meanwhile Moore rushed for 73 yards, including a 9-yard TD run late in the second period, and had two catches for 38 yards. He also attempted a pass, but it was picked off and returned by Axline for a 75-yard touchdown on the final play of the third quarter.
However the seniors weren’t the only stars for the Titans. Junior Michael Brooks added a rushing touchdown and also had a team-high eight tackles.
Collins now has a week off before traveling to Madison Central for its regular-season finale on Oct. 29.
