Three youths make all-star football teams

A trio of local boys - East Middle’s Brenden Durr and West Middle’s Zachary Stucker and Devon Calhoun – participated in recent all-star football games.

Durr was one of 35 eighth graders chosen to the Kentucky all-star football team that competed in the FBU National Championship.

The Kentucky team beat Arkansas 32-14 Dec. 14 in its first game before falling to Nashville 38-8 on Dec. 15.

Meanwhile Stucker and Calhoun played in the Kentucky Middle School Football Association’s East/West All-Star Game Dec. 1 in Frankfort.

  • The Shelby County girls’ basketball team continues play in Conner High School’s 3rd annual Lady Cougar Classic today and Saturday. The Rockets, who played Bishop Brossart in their first game of the tourney Thursday, play host Conner at 1:30 p.m. today and Belfry at 7 p.m. tonight. They’ll play one game Saturday at either 11 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Next week, Shelby County plays Iroquois at 3 p.m. Friday in the Bluegrass Cellular New Year’s Classic at Central Hardin before hosting Tates Creek at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Collins boys’ basketball team continues play in the Lloyd Memorial Invitational Tournament in Erlanger today and Saturday. After that the Titans are off until they host Anderson County in a 30th District showdown at 7:30 p.m. next Friday. The next day they play Mason County at 2:30 p.m. at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
  • The Shelby County boys’ basketball team continues play in the Lloyd Memorial Invitational Tournament in Erlanger today and Saturday. After that the Rockets play at Grant County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday before hosting Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.
  • The Collins girls’ basketball team plays at Meade County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday night.
