This holiday season, a group of third grade students from Southside Elementary teamed up to serve and contribute to their community. Their idea was to get the whole school involved in collecting new gloves and mittens for those in need in the local community. The gloves were hung on the school's "Mitten Tree" for all to view. The items were picked up by Operation Care, The Center for Women and Families and The Dorman Preschool Center. "I am so proud of this class! It was 100 percent their idea, and they are making a difference all by themselves. This is the type of project that [the students] will remember and feel good about for years to come," said Stephanie Logsdon, Special Education Collaboration Teacher. This was the first year that Southside Elementary took on a project like this during the holidays. They hope to continue the "Mitten Tree" idea for years to come
