Stefan L. Harris, 32, was arrested when police discovered he was a passenger in a car being driven by Jerome Harris, 27.

Shelbyville Police had pulled over Jerome Harris’ vehicle after they noticed him driving careless on Midland Trail shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.

He was arrested and charged with careless driving and operating on a suspended driver’s license. His passenger, Stefan Harris, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and first-degree assault in connection with the shooting of Jeffery Riggins.

Shelbyville Police Det. Jesse Paulley said he thought the pair were related.

Jerome Harris lives on Berea St., and Stefan Harris has both Shelbyville and Louisville addresses.

Harris had been on the lam since the shooting, but police released his identification last week, after some help from the public, Paulley said.

Riggins was shot on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after having argued with Harris the night before, police said. He hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the stomach and spent several days at the University of Louisville Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit before being released.

Stefan Harris is being held on a $50,000 cash bond at the Shelby County Detention Center. Jerome Harris has been released.

Stefan Harris will be arraigned on Tuesday.
