Shelbyville Police have arrested a man wanted in connection in robbing a clerk at a tobacco store at knife point.

Jason G. Hardison, 31, of 4511 Summit Drive in Pioneer Village, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery a week after a Crime Stoppers article appeared in The Sentinel-News about the robbery.

A police report said that Hardison allegedly entered Fast Lane Tobacco on Nov. 9 and, brandishing a large hunting knife, demanded $20 from the clerk. After the clerk handed over the money, Hardison grabbed a $100 bill, police said, and left the store.

The crime was captured on store video, and in addition to a published photo of the suspect, police showed photos in the area of the robbery, the report said.

Police said one of the people who identified Hardison through photos was his own mother, adding that he is a heroin addict who has been in and out of jail.

Shelbyville Police officer Kelly Cable said officers worked diligently on the case, both at the crime scene and interviewing several witnesses.

Hardison is lodged at the Shelby County Detention Center under a $20,000 cash bond.
