Fairgoers were treated to excellent weather Thursday for the first day of the Shelby County Fair, with temperatures about 10 degrees cooler than the sweltering heat that has marked the past several days.
The fair opened with the District Dairy Show in the morning, when Rachel White, a Shelby County High School student, won big, capturing the Supreme Showman 2010 Shelbyville District Dairy Show award.
