Boys golf: Showdown Thursday

Collins and Shelby County tuned up for Thursday’s 5 p.m. showdown at Weissinger Hills with dual matches on Monday.

Collins defeated host Franklin County, 161-167, in a 9-hole match at Juniper Hills on Monday. The Titans were led by junior Conor Doyle, who shot 1-over-par 36, The JV team also won, 171-201, behind freshman Michael Troutman, who shot 38.

Shelby County lost to Lexington Sayre at Weissinger, 166-191. Seth Albrecht led the Rockets with a 43.

That followed a week in which Collins defeated Western Hills High School in Frankfort, 154-188, Thursday and finished 10th in the Prestonsburg invitational, 22 shots behind champion West Jessamine, on Saturday. 

Senior Josh Griffin was the low man for Thursday’s event for the Titans, shooting an even-par 36 at the Shelbyville Country Club in the 9-hole match, and Tayler Adams carded the best score in the 18-hole weekend tournament with a 4-over 76. He finished tied for 14th.

Other scores included Doyle with 77, Griffin with 82 and Jared Redmon with 87.

Also, on Aug. 17, the Titans defeated Woodford County, 151-173, at Weissinger Hills. Doyle led the Titans with a 2-under-par 34. Griffin shot 36, followed by Redmon (39) and Adams (42). The Titans JV team also beat Woodford, 169-195. Freshman Brandon Sanner and junior Josh Kuhn both shot 40.

 

Girls soccer: SCHS rolls, Collins wins

The Rockets blew out fort Knox, 5-1, on the road Saturday and evened their record at 1-1. They will host North Bullitt (1-0-1) at 5:30 tonight at the SCHS Athletic Complex.

Collins (1-1) scored in each half to defeat host Henry County, 2-0, on Monday night. The second goal, which came at the 18:35 mark of the final half, came on a frantic play in front of the net that saw Collins take three straight shots.

 

Boys soccer: Collins nips Anderson

Collins beat rival Anderson County, 3-2, at Lawrenceburg on Saturday. Anderson is coming off a 13-5-4 season in 2009, but was bounced in the district tournament. 

Collins, which is now 2-0-1 after beating Shelby and tying Eastern, visited North Oldham (0-1-1) on Tuesday night.

 

Volleyball: Titans top Spencer

Collins defeated host Spencer County, 25-20, 25-17, Wednesday. Setter Heather Luce had 18 assists in the two games. In the first game, the Titans were led by Allison Henshaw, who had three kills and Kassie Bruner, who had four digs. Jackie Hunter had two blocks in game one. Bruner picked up two digs in the second game, while Leanna Armstrong had four kills.
