East Middle football practice
East Middle will begin football practice at 6 p.m. July 9. Players and parents need to report to the practice field with updated KHSAA physical and medical release forms. WMS volleyball tryouts
West Middle School volleyball tryouts will be from 5-7 p.m. July 9-13 at West Middle School. Practice will be 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting July 16. There will be a parents meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 6 in the gym. For more information, contact Stewart Shirley at 502-220-0250. All persons trying out must have a completed physical dated on or before July 9.
Titan Football Youth Camp
Collins High School’s Titan Football Youth Camp will be 6-8 p.m. July 10-12 at Titan Stadium. The camp will be provided by the Collins coaching staff. Cost is $10 for those heading into grades K-8. July tennis clinic
Shelby County Parks & Rec. is offering tennis clinics for beginner and intermediate youth and adults starting July 10. Clinics are Tuesday and Thursday evenings for four weeks. Collins, West Middle x-country
Anyone interested in running cross country for Collins or West Middle in the fall contact Coach Stephen Drawbaugh at 502-487-0874 or firstname.lastname@example.org to express interest. No prior experience necessary. Official practice will begin at 8 a.m. July 16 at Red Orchard Park.
Collins volleyball tryouts
Tryouts for the Collins volleyball team will be from 8-10 a.m. July 16-17 in the Collins gymnasium. For those interested in playing volleyball this coming season it is mandatory to attend both tryout sessions. Bring all medical paperwork with you, and arrive early. Collins girls’ soccer tryouts
Tryouts for the Collins girls’ soccer team will be from 6-8 p.m. July 16-17 at the Collins practice field. Any girl who’ll be in grades 7-12 is welcome to try out. Lady Titan softball camp
The Lady Titan Softball Camp will be from 9 a.m.-noon July 16-19 for grades 1-8. Cost is $50. Registration forms can be picked up Sports Legends or Hibbetts or you can sign up from 8-9 a.m. July 16 at the Collins softball field. For more info contact Coach Jim Axline at 502-379-9518.
Collins boys’ golf team tryouts
Tryouts for the 2012 Collins boys’ golf team will be held at 4 p.m. July 16 and 4 p.m. July 19 at Shelbyville Country Club. Boys must attend and play 9 holes both days to be considered for the team. Each participant will be required to provide an updated Sports Physical form before being allowed to tryout on July 16. Travel team baseball tryouts
There will be open baseball tryouts for next year’s 6/7 & 8-year-old travel teams from 5:45-7:30 p.m. July 30 at Clear Creek Park’s Instructional Field. There will be two teams 6/7U and 8U and practice begins in January 2013. Date of births are May 2004-April 2005 for the 8U team and May 2005-April 2007 for the 6/7U team. 2nd grade travel basketball team tryouts
There will be open basketball tryouts for a second grade travel basketball team from 7:30-8:30 p.m. July 30 in the FAC gym at Clear Creek Park. Players must be entering the second grade in the fall. Cornerstone Christian basketball camp
Cornerstone Christian Academy will be have an instructional basketball camp for boys and girls July 31-Aug. 3. The morning session, for those entering first-fifth grades, will run from 9 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session, for those entering sixth-ninth grades, will run from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $60 if paid and registered by July 20. Cost is $70 after July 20. The camp will be led by former Cornerstone Christian Coach Chris Armstrong and current Cornerstone Coach Jason Bradshaw. There will also be special speakers each day. One of this year’s special speakers will be former University of Kentucky and Boston Celtics player Rick Robey. The camp will focus on individual instruction for offensive moves such as dribbling techniques, using screens to get open, shooting techniques, ball fakes, post moves and defensive techniques. The afternoon session will be attended by current NAIA coaches looking for future players. Each session is limited to the first 70 campers that sign up. SCHS sports passes available
Shelby County High School sports passes are now available for the 2012-13 school year. The Rocket Athletic Pass, for admission to any regular-season sporting event, is $40 for students, $75 for adults and $175 for families (up to four members), Children 6 and under are free. Senior Citizen Passes (for Rocket fans 65 and older) are always free and never expire.
